You should be boiled alive and fed to all of us.

Tigers kick ass. This event is proof.

Yes, of course, because it's the tiger's fault for choosing to live amongst us. =) Couldn't possibly be the zoo's fault, especially seeing as they've had trouble of this sort before.

If tigers were illegal, only criminals would have tigers.

Posted by Fifty-Two-Eighty | December 25, 2007 9:13 PM

Next thing you know, you people are going to say the tigers I have guarding my compound in Issaquah *aren't* guaranteed by the Second Ammendment, right? This is where it all starts. Soon the defense llamas will be outlawed, too.

Notice that the three guys were in their 20s and it was just after closing. I bet they were fooling around and opened the cage.

Posted by SeattleBrad | December 25, 2007 9:43 PM

Fuck you, Dan. Why punish the tigers? Why not think before you post?

Merry Christmas!!!

some of you don't get Dan Savage's satiric reference to his bull dog gripes

3 guys in their 20's after closing time in the SF Zoo? How gay. That tiger was homophobic. This was a hate crime. No wonder Dan's so antitiger.

M.I.A. just cancelled her tour.

@5 - how would that explain what the tiger was doing in the cafe?

Posted by erika | December 26, 2007 5:16 AM

The 2 not killed by the cage right away maybe "relocated" to the cafe? Hmmm?

Orm the tiger wanted a latte.

Posted by unPC | December 26, 2007 7:42 AM

The zoo closed its doors to new visitors at 5, but the grounds don't close until 6 for visitors that are already inside.

Also, the tiger escaped an outdoor enclosure, not a cage (but maybe someone created a bridge over the dry moat that tiger used - so foul play is not out of the question).

This is going to be one of those stories that I obsess over until all the details become public.

i was at that zoo over the summer.

poor fucking tiger.

zoos suck. close them all.

Posted by max solomon | December 26, 2007 8:33 AM

Yup. Zoos suck.

Posted by Lloyd Clydesdale | December 26, 2007 8:46 AM

OMG, don't tell me we all actually AGREE on something? Yes, zoos are nasty, evil places.

Posted by Fifty-Two-Eighty | December 26, 2007 8:53 AM

Idiot zookeepers should be boiled alive and fed to their tigers. Or do tigers prefer raw meat?

Posted by keshmeshi | December 26, 2007 9:15 AM

I suspect, though, that an elephant could keister a kilo of coke, or something in that range.

Posted by Lloyd Clydesdale | December 26, 2007 9:22 AM

"The men who survived the attack may have been taunting the tiger at the time." MSNBC 9:22 am. But no facts given. Victims not talking. Suspicious?? Zookeepers floating this to shift blame from zoo? Too much in love w/ tigers?

Posted by unPC | December 26, 2007 9:27 AM

Zookeepers have very stressful jobs and now this. Eating red meat would only add to their stress.

So, rather than boiled tiger, why not have remaining tigers run round and round a tree, 'till they turn into butter?

Then, serve on wheat free hotcakes.

Don't be so "Savage"!

Posted by Uptight Seattleite | December 26, 2007 9:35 AM

Zoos have a function. They can suck, but not all zoos do.

there's usually a link: the people who are most critical of zoos have the least connection with nature...actually understand biology (ecology/evolution) and the conservation problems for these species.

Posted by cw | December 26, 2007 10:07 AM

Story goes on to say that the tiger cage had a "feeding shoot." A Freudian slip of a typo, I'd say.

Posted by Ronald | December 26, 2007 10:29 AM

cw, you really should write a column for the Stranger. With your "I'm more intelligent and more educated than you are" attitude, you'd fit right in. Oh, and I guess it's not OK for one of us dumb yokels to point out that the gene pool of most species currently in captivity is too small to preserve the species.

Posted by Fifty-Two-Eighty | December 26, 2007 12:05 PM

Hey, let's put cw in a cage for life to preserve and study her/him. It will serve a "function" so it'll be perfectly moral.

Posted by jamier | December 26, 2007 12:17 PM

yeah, i dislike zoos because i have the least connection with nature. empathy for a wolf panting & pacing back & forth in its enclosure from boredom & anxiety while horrible fat apes & their spawn gawk at it has shit to do with it.

Posted by max solomon | December 26, 2007 1:27 PM

I am too smart for most of you yokels.

Genetic diversity of a species is NOT the cause of extinction. Look up the term 'Genetic load'. As for my future in a cage, you can study the frequency that I release my genetic load.

I do this for a living...sorry if I came off as a the blow hard know it all.

Posted by cw | December 26, 2007 1:28 PM

cw - "conservation problems" from your @21 is rather blowhardian.

Posted by Lloyd Clydesdale | December 26, 2007 3:47 PM

Fuck you.
Someone screwed up such that the tiger got loose. Not the first time that this has happened.
Happy New Year, in spite of that bonehead comment you made on the tiger.

Posted by Tom | December 27, 2007 3:51 AM

Is it bad that I'm slightly more concerned about the tiger who was shot for acting like a wild animal than I am about the dead human?
