I Regret

posted by on December 27 at 9:30 AM

Many items on this year’s Stranger annual regrets list are jokes. This one isn’t.

Jen Graves, The Stranger’s visual art editor, regrets that she was so judgmental about Matthew Kangas on Slog, because it caused Slog to become a referendum on her ethics rather than Kangas’s, and that meant that her comments were not only ethically questionable but stupid. But she does not regret the resulting March 8 story about Kangas.

I regret that work is seriously interfering with my Slogging time.

Is Scully going to post something today?

This week's Stranger is the most self-stroking pile of hippo crap that I can't believe trees were killed for it. No one cares what you think!

Poe, who is this Scully you speak of? No need to answer, I'm outta here after writing this.

But of the one Scully est knowest of, I did see a reincarnated Moulder dude in the
1st half hour of same bad movie called Trust The Man?
Also starring the loathsome Gyllenhall wench, we were stuck with curiosity over the HBO, inside motel we got overin the holidays. Promptly swithched offaroo, then into the darkness of a in-tents orangina lowbig horizon diskfull mooooooon! Beddy-byeeeeee!

Fair enough, Jen, but for many of us l'affaire Kangas was one of the most fascinating episodes of 2007. Never have I witnessed so many of Seattle's art people expressing themselves so fervently and so publicly. Your March 8th story, written in the midst of the storm that ensued after your original post, was one of your very best. Happy New Year!

Incorrect spelling of Mulder is X-files blasphemy.

Certain people regret certain crushes.

Tell me about it. I used to have a crush on Bush.

I regret not taking pictures at Slog happy hour. Or getting Monique's, Poe's, or the Public Intern's phone numbers, meow.

I further regret that I didn't spend all of my high school years getting high and playing grab-ass; I had to wait 'till college.

On a related note, anyone know those guys in the ads for The Crypt? Please tell me they're locals. Rrrrooowwwrr!

"David Schmader, an associate editor of The Stranger, regrets how much joy he got this year from looking at photos of Paris Hilton weeping in the back of a police car."

Don't ever regret that. I don't.

I echo Jim's sentiment; I fully believe that Seattle people need to come out of the woodwork for far less in the future.

I'll raise my glass to you for getting them out of their shell!

I certainly regret Public Editor A. Birch Steen is no longer with the Stranger. The newspaper lost its best writer.

In his December 13 column, Stranger news editor Josh Feit reported that Democratic state representative Roger Goodman (D-45) is from Redmond. Goodman is from Kirkland. We regret the error, although they're the same fucking place.

Christ. This kind of bullshit makes the Stranger writers look bad. What would you think if somebody said that Capitol Hill and Queen Anne were the same fucking place? After all, they're right next door, aren't they?

I also regret that I read the columns by A. Birch Steen's replacements.

@ 15,

Yeah, that last one by Postman started off well enough, but quickly crossed the line into Tirade County. I was all "wow Shelby, drink your juice."

I TOTES can't wait to get drunk and read this issue (one of my annual favorites)

Then regret the drinking problem that I picked up this year

I regret that I earlier stated A. Birch Steen had departed The Stranger, and I truly regret he did. I now understand he returned after the business department threw lots of money at him. I regret that advertizing rates may go up and the editorial staff's payroll may go down as a result of Mr. Steen's increase to his pay packet, however this is the price of a proper Public Editor.
