This is a clone of the old Jello 1-2-3 recipe. Three layers are made as the Jello cools in the refrigerator.

3/4 cup boiling water
1 package (4-serving size) Jell-o brand gelatin -- any flavor
1/2 cup cold water
ice cubes
1/2 cup Cool Whip Non-Dairy Whipped Topping -- thawed

Pour boiling water into blender. Add gelatin. Cover and blend at low speed until gelatin is completely dissolved, about 30 seconds.
Combine cold water and ice cubes to make 1-1/4 cups. Add to gelatin and stir until ice is partially melted.
Then add whipped topping; blend at high speed for 30 seconds.
Pour into dessert glasses.
Chill about 30 minutes. Dessert layers as it chills. Garnish as desired.

Makes 3 cups or 6 servings

1-2-3 is second to the magical confection known as the Jell-o pudding pop, Cosby endorsement or no. What creaminess!

There was a desert just like this I saw (and purchased) earlier this year...it wasn't Jell-O brand, and I can't think of what brand it was. I'm on the East coast now (this was purchased in Princeton), and it was a brand I'd never seen before (having been born & raised in OK), so it may just be a regional, NE thing. However, it does exist! And it tasted just like Jell-O 1-2-3. And just as good as I'd remembered from when I was a kid.

Bronkitis is correct. Pudding Pops rule! They used to be even better when they were much larger. Vanilla is, of course, the best of the (I think) three flavors available, followed by chocolate-vanilla swirl, and then chocolate. But the best of all was BANANA, long discontinued.

I miss the Pudding Pops too! Those were da bomb!

Fnarf, you're wonderful. I totally forgot about the whole tip-the-glass-at-an-angle thing. Mom always just did it level. I thought I was being incredibly creative when I tipped it at an angle. Such an artiste!

Anyone remember that Jello had another SciFi dessert product out during the same era - Spoon Candy, a multilayered pudding-type-of-thing that would magically separate from brown sludge into a layer of pudding-like product, whipped parfait-ishness, *and* a hard chocolate top shell? This vanished same time as 123.

Yes, Jello 123, a delicacy of sorts in my midwestern home as a youth. I wolfed down everything else my mom set before me, but this...this confection...I took my time with, scraping oh so carefully with my spoon until, one half hour tv show later, I arrived at the bottom of the brown glass vessel, satisfied.

Anyone remember Yo-Jello? I think that's what it was called. They came in little snack packs.

Yogurt on the bottom,

2 great flavors in one great something or other.

It didn't last very long.
