Complete and utter tosh, every word of it. History is largely a story of great increases in happiness for the vast majority of people. You should check out how your ancestors lived sometime.

And for every tyrant you admire who died tragically (i.e., happily for the majority of his subjects) there are millions of other people who died peacefully after a mostly happy life.
