Fun Forest RIP

posted by on December 11 at 10:05 AM

The city council voted yesterday to burn Seattle Center’s Fun Forest to the ground in 2009. Goldy’s pissed.

Isn't Goldy always pissed?

Wahoo! We could have a Slog sendoff party during it's closing week!

Posted by NaFun | December 11, 2007 10:09 AM

When's the party? I'll be there, Molotovs in hand, to help get it started.

Huzzah!! I fucking hate the Fun Forest, and will happily bring my chainsaw and gascan to the burning.

That place was a fucking embarrassment, and I don't care how happy your idyllic childhood memories of it are, it deserves to die and be replaced with something - anything - more appealing.

Goldy makes excellent points. We still have the monstrosity of the EMP, and we subsidize the SLUT to the tune of gazillions, but if its for kids, who cares?

Kids want video games.

The fun forest is tacky tacky tacky and a waste of space.

Why not other things for kid s like more science for kids, arts for kids, sports for kids and video games for kids and skateboards for kids?

Amusement parks are not too popular anymore and have a place but not in prime downtown real estate. The fun forest is empty most of the time.

Stop all the whiny nostalgia.

You people are ignoring the fact that we are losing a rollercoaster in the middle of the city. This is a bad thing.

Councilmember Peter Steinbrueck expressed concern that Seattle Center will lack affordable, interactive places for families and young children, but the lease change passed unanimously.

Steinbrueck is out of his fucking mind if he seriously thinks Fun Forest is a popular place for parents to take their children.

Fun Forest is a sadder spectacle than a half-empty swapmeet. Good riddance, and may it be replaced by a more fruitful venture.

Three words:

Outdoor Beer Garden.

My kid loves the Fun Forest. We go seven or eight times a year. Seriously. And we almost always have the whole thing to ourselves.

Is it possible to keep the rollercoaster and the merry go round? Maybe relocate them? On a side note, when they tear down the Alpine ride, where are the Center School kids going to smoke at lunch time?

About fucking time. They should have pulled the plug on the Fun Forrest at least a decade or more ago.

I've taken my kids to the Space Needle, the Pacific Science Center, and the Children's Museum, but never the Fun Forest. I'm not gonna miss it.

Looks like I've got a limited amount of time if I'm going to relive high school shenanigans by getting stoned and dragging an unwilling date on amusement park rides in January.

Mostly I'm bummed that this probably means they're getting rid of my beloved skee-ball.

Change it Fun Forrest Whitaker. EMP could run it, they love shit like that. BirdHouse Revolving Jazz Cafe, Ghost Dogs, and interactive rides. "Hey mom, I'm Idi Amin!"

Posted by davej | December 11, 2007 11:15 AM

Does the Fun Forest roller coaster still have its "You must be this tall to ride me" sign out front? That would be worth saving.

Posted by Smarm | December 11, 2007 11:19 AM

You know, if we contract this out to the Burning Man group, it would be a lot more fun ...

They should auction off the contents.
