Elves for Ron Paul

posted by on December 28 at 14:19 PM

Ron Paul supporters have already used Halo 3 to drum up support. And now they’re taking to World of Warcraft:

On New Years Day, Paul-backing devotees of the online multiplayer game are planning a march through WoW’s sprawling virtual universe to show support their candidate. Participants will be represented by one of an array of mythical avatars that populate the fantasy-themed game, in which players take on adventures and duel against rival characters.

The anti-Paul brigade shouldn’t get their hopes up for a sword-clashing conflict with the marchers, however, since

The event will take place on a server that forbids player vs. player combat.

Cowards.

A blimp, Gaylo 3 and WOW? Well, at least he has a blimp...

HRC plays Gears of War. She's my candidate.

@2: Congratulations, you used the word gay in a derogatory/insulting way! How's your holiday break from sixth grade going so far?

That doesn't prevent you from serving them with your wicked dance moves ...

It already started in WoW... about 3 weeks ago I was in one of the city hubs and there was a character named "RonPaul2008" yelling things like "Do you know who Ron Paul is? Check out RonPaul.com!" etc.

People were not amused.

I don't know whether it's pathetic or brilliant to reach people through WoW. Although considering 65-75% of WoW players must be below voting-age...

On the other hand, the guild I run with is mostly 30+ adults in Indiana, (white, middle-class family-types) mostly apathetic to politics but probably leaning libertarian if pressed, so maybe Paul will get his target audience.

@3 - Dude, it's Mr. Poe. The normal rules of appropriate/P.C. conduct don't apply to him. Are you new to Slog or something?

Everyone on Xbox live has the gay variant Tourette syndrome.

"Shit! Fuck! GAY!! OH THATS SO GAY!! FUCK!!! SHIT!!! WTF? GAY!!!!!"

Gaylo indeed.

@7: Sorry, not a Halo fanboy. I've never owned a copy of the game, or an XBOX for that matter. I was taking umbrage with your use of the word gay as an insult.

I was guilty of using it in that manner in high school, and I guess it's a bit of a penitential pet-peeve of mine now. I realize that it's a bit ridiculous to try to hold people on the internet to any sort of standard, so I'm sorry for that. I guess I was just feeling a little idealistic this afternoon. I blame the coffee.

I thought you could still fight other players on the non PvP servers, as long as they aren't on the same faction (Alliance, Horde). It just opens you up to attack by the NPC's. This makes me want to add credit to my dusty old WoW account and take out some Ron Paul supporters. They are probably level 70 though. Night Elves for Edwards!

More importantly, this is my scoop! I should have proper credit and attribution for it!

At No. 8:

Unless Steinbacher found it on his own--in that case, what took him so long? I'm not exactly a cutting edge slogperson here....

Man, this has epic fail written all over it.

Ron Paul should make one of those WoW commercials with Mr. T and mini-me.

"Hi, I'm Ron Paul, and I'm a buxom dwarf with a +2 frost sword."
