Well, clearly this exonerates the scores of closeted, adulterous, and otherwise hanky-panky making GOP members of Congress, for, if even a single Democratic Senate staff member is guilty of such a heinous crime, then the scales of righteous indignation and hysterical finger-pointing are balanced, no?

Why did Sen. Cantwell hire a Republican for an aide?

Just wondering.

Maybe she was trying to do outreach?

Note to all child predators and prospective child predators: Keep making your arrangements online, guys. Really. Don't worry about cops posing as teenagers.

Okay, folks. Here's the test case on media bias. Let's see how much play this story gets in the media compared to the Larry Craig case. Similarities and differences: While he did cop a plea, Craig's alleged illegal sexual activity involved 2 adults, the McHaney case involved his attempt to have sex with a pre-pubescent fictional boy during his lunch break. The Craig case involves an elected official, the other only the staff of an elected official, Maria Cantwell. Both cases have the question of possible entrapment. BTW, Sen. Cantwell's staff has already pulled the page with Mike McHaney's info from one of her websites. It's still available in cache.

Um, Red M, Sen Craig was an elected US Senator.

The unelected legislative aide of a US Senator ... how many do they have anyway?

Not even similar.

But just keep trying to not think about the 2008 Blue Wave that's coming for you ...

Greetings, Will- that's what I said: "The Craig case involves an elected official, the other only the staff of an elected official", the elected official was Sen Craig, (thought that was obvious). My point was media coverage or lack thereof, and comparing and contrasting the cases. Thanks for the 2008 Blue Wave image. That should frighten me? How much blue-er could we get in Western Washington? What do you think about Sen. Cantwell firing McHaney the same day he was arrested, before he's had his day in court?

Oh, much bluer.

We were purple after 2006.

Think royal blue.

red m, why would you have the same media coverage for this case, since it involves a mere staffer? what exactly is your point? if the coverage is less, that's not bias, that's about a much smaller story, is all. oh, and p.s.: unless this next election is rigged, the republicans are TOAST. blue, blue, blue!

Craig pled guilty, another difference. He then tried to retract his plea, in effect claiming that he'd lied to the court. His long record as a moral scold -- he'd called Clinton a "naughty boy" during impeachment -- made the unmasking of a hypocrite into a big story. Said story also happened in summer, a slow time for political news in this country. Finally, bathroom sex between consenting adults, while icky and illegal, is not attempted molestation of a child. Your analogy should have been to Mark Foley.

Thanks for playing. Better luck next time.
