I can understand why she is running a second time: It worked so well for Aldi Stevenson and Thomas Dewey....

Unless Mr. Reichart really fucks up she is toast: the anit-war movement that got her that close to winning has died off for the most part.

If I were Democrat I would focus on increasing our seats in the state Senate and House. With lackluster Gregiore, Rossi is nearly a shoe-in for the Gov's Mansion next year.

It's not just the funds.

It's the larger Blue Wave in 2008.

The one in 2006 was a two footer. 2008 will be a six to eight footer.

The bigger question for me is why do we want a military supporting MSFT rep. The reason the war can't be stopped is that we have the corporate Democrats in charge that are anointing candidates for swing districts. They picked Burner because of her military family ties and fundraising ability and clean look. They forced out any other candidate, people that had actually been politically active. If she is elected we will have a pro corporate, pro military rep.

Will - what have the Dems done to make for this huge wave?

1. Perseverance, @1.

Like Abe Lincoln.

Or Ronald Reagan.

2. Will's big blue wave.

3. Every year the district is more urban, more liberal, and less sleepy ol' Bellevue.

4. Larger turnout in a presidential year.

5. CHANGE.

6. HEALTHCARE.

7. Read up on the link. The GOP has no money. Because Bush blew it. The war, the lies, the debts, the mismanagement, the corruption, the cronyism, the lying liars like Sen. Craig....that's the Reichert team.

The Democratic Party is at risk of having lower turn out due to the alienation of the anit-war voters. They are angry with the party and may simply stay home on election day.

@1 Rossi nearly a shoo-in over Gregoire? Got even the slightest bit of evidence to back that up? From what I've seen, he's toast.

Leaving aside your questionable assessment of the Gregoire-Rossi race, how hard do you think it is for voters to "focus" on voting for more than just statewide races, and also vote for Democratic congressional candidates. I think people can "focus" on both things. Maybe that's just difficult for Republicans to do?

The Gov's special session last week caving to Eyman (ie the GOP) and what has she done in the last four years? And remember that she won by only 130 votes (far from a mandate to begin with)

If the housing slump hits us (which is very likely) she is toast. Voters vote with their wallets first & foremost. She needs to so something soon or she may as well pack up.

@9, right. Meanwhile Rossi's donations are way off from what they were at the some pint in his previous race. Many individuals and groups that donated to him last time have already contributed to Gregoire. She has stolen his thunder on every issue except the moral values ones, which will hurt him in this state more than help.

Right, he's in great shape.

@whatever:

Ok, first, "they" (assuming you mean the DC party elite) didn't pick her. She picked herself, and convinced enough Democratic party voters in the 8th district to support her that other candidates decided to drop out.

In 2006, she was just plain willing to work harder and campaign harder than her opponent, that Randy somebody-or-other laywer fellow. Randy would probably have made a fine congressman, but he just wasn't willing to campaign his ass off, every single day, like darcy was.

This year, Darcy faced competition from local boy Rodney Tom, whose campaign made essentially all the same "if she could't do it in '06, why should we expect her to do it now" arguments. Again, Darcy just plain out-campaigned him. She's been in this race for months and months, whereas Rodney only tossed his hat into the ring at the urging of (my sniffing in the wind tells me) local state party elites. But Darcy again campaigned her ass off and turned Reichert's big visit from Daddy Bush into a huge grassroots-drivin windfall for her campaign, at which point Rodney saw the sense in bowing out gracefully.

"They" didn't pick her. _I_ picked her, as did thousands and thousands of my 8th district neighbors. I've had the privilege of talking with Darcy on numerous occasions, and I can promise you that whatever her background, she's a populist and she will make the decisions that need to be made to get this country's head out of its collective ass.

@4 - sorry, it's the incompetence on the Red Bushie side that's creating the wave.

Hey, did you hear the acceleration in the national deficit and the national debt is getting even worse? Today's news ...

Speaking of funds, how come the GOP can't get money at even half the rate of Dems for their House, Senate, State Legislature, or even Governor's races?

Yeah, it's a wave. And it's coming and you're not going to stop it.

#12 if she still has her stuff up from last campaign read and tell me she isn't a combination of pro military Murray and pro corporate Cantwell.

All part of the Rahm Emanuel "we need well funded candidates that support the troops" program. All the other good Democrats were asked to leave the race as they didn't want any negative in the primary.

Think we had an open contest? One guy in CA did win against the party insiders but it was rare. Check around and you'll find Inslee and others that anointed her locally.
