I would have liked to see Darrow v. Bryan in a fight to the death.

Sweaty old fat white men in dress shirts and suspenders desperately eye gouging and punching, that would have been awesome.

Yeah, I'm sure the fact he was a creationist is what's relevant, not the fact he was drunk.

The creationist got a maximum sentence of 5 years. I can't help but wonder if the sentence would have been different if the creationist were the dead one. Or perhaps this is simply a result of different sentencing laws in Australia.

'Justice Adams said he had given York a sentence at the lower end of the scale, partly because of the accidental nature of the stabbing.

"I do not believe that he took aim but rather thrust out," Justice Adams said.

"I think he knew that the knife was in his hand ...'

Fucking hell. He gets a knife and thrusts it into the guy, and it's an "accident"?

From TFA: "The offender is a person of good character and the offence is a complete aberration."

Clearly, he was defending God's word. Can't have better character than that :\

you know you have a knife, and you are thrusting, but you only accidentally stab some one? this is survival of the fittest gone haywire.

This could have all been avoided if only the scientist had evolved some sort of armor-plating.

@10 maybe he though Jeebus would turn the knife into a fish, sounds like reasonable action to me.

Get drunk and stab someone to death that you disagree with...

How very Christian!

Maybe they were re-enacting the scuffles between Scot and Brit prisoners newly freed in Australia. They were, after all, in New South Wales, home of the ancient penal colony. Local history play has bad act.

It comes to no surprise. It's written in the Bible.
Watch out for the Christians as Jesus was a liar!!
