This image is from an advertisement currently running on the website for The New York Times. The advertisement represents the Janus Capital Group, an investment company that provides "institutional and intermediary clients and individual investors complementary asset management disciplines including growth and risk-managed strategies." Fine. But what is this image showing us? It is showing us how transnational capital sees its self: it is, for one, flexible. Its kind of money is not static or dedicated to one mode, but will use any vehicle, any means to get to a good investment opportunity. Also, transnational capital, is youthful, on the...

I've always found it profoundly ironic that Janus is the name of an investment company. One myth is that Janus sees the past and the future, but wasn't he also the two-faced Roman God of Lies?

Comment by Gay Seattle

Having just been to Saigon two weeks ago for the third time I was impressed with the few international business travelers that had the guts to hop on the back of the primary mode of transportation - mopeds. Everywhere someone will take you around on the back of a moped for a mere dollar yet many business travelers choose taxis which move relatively slow around the city and add to the pollution. I am impressed with the ad. Now some would argue paying $1 for such a simple task is screwing with the inflation in Saigon since a health care worker in Hanoi makes about 60,000 Dong a day (about $4) but is it better to take a taxi for $5-$10!?

Comment by gucci clad marxist

The white shirt/black tie/black slacks combo is a representation of greed. As seen when worn on mafiosi, investment bankers, k-street lobbyest types, oil execs...you know the sort, thugs who use intimidation and clout to exploit the rubes that are too afraid to embrace the Revolution, and wrest fashion back into its' rightful place, on the Masses!!

It does look like a hasty retreat, like #7 said, he's calling ahead to the embassy, trying to escape the angry mob that was infuriated by such a blatant display of imperialist wardrobe.
