Breeding Will Out

Britney Spears’ sister—Britney Spears’ 16 year-old sister—is pregnant.

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old “Zoey 101” star and sister of Britney, told OK! magazine that she’s pregnant and that the father is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge….

Spears is 12 weeks along and initially kept the news to herself when she learned of the pregnancy from an at-home test and subsequent doctor visit, she told the celebrity magazine, which hits stands in New York on Wednesday and the rest of the country by Friday.

What message does she want to send to other teens about premarital sex? “I definitely don’t think it’s something you should do; it’s better to wait,” she told the magazine.

Somewhere between 15 and 40 percent of all pregnancies fail in the first 20 weeks, which means there’s still hope. The latest Spears fetus may yet be spared the indignity of being born. Let’s all light a little candle, shall we?

So the Spears clan has pimped out all their daughters? Didn't they learn their lesson with the first one?

Maybe it'll get lucky and she'll consider adoption...

"I haven't spoken to (Nickelodeon) personally, but they have always been so great to me over the past years and have given me so many opportunities."

Yeah, somehow I don't think they'll be writing a 16-year-old pregnant girl into their story line.

Furthermore how nice is that to blab the news to the world through a magazine before sitting down and having a conversation with your boss. Not that I'd expect a 16-year-old pregnant girl to be responsible but c'mon!

She's a perfect Republican -- "Do as I say, not as I do."

I don't believe the pregnancy will end. Her sister, Britney, has proven the family's physical ability to reproduce.

@4, I could have lived without all caps, but I kind of agree with you. I marginally follow this crap, but it's everywhere you look...but really -- if she wanted to get an abortion and was denied, everyone would be raising hell. She wants to keep the pregnancy and everyone villifies her.

She's a kid, raised by idiots with no great role models. She's not unlike millions of other teenagers in that regard.

That said, boy, are they a fertile bunch. If they weren't so stupid, I'd say they could make a lot of money being surrogates, but I know I wouldn't want those genes to raise. There's only so much nurture can do with their nature.

If we are going to vilify anybody hang the dumb ass parents that watched their first daughter ruin her life and then allowed the second one to do the same.
These parents have practically prostituted their daughters for fames sake or money.

I hope her pregnancy goes fine! This girl wont win in any circle. The media is going to crucify her.
Both these girls are destined to become fat tragic 40 year olds with 8 kids each.

You mean you don't keep up on the Spears sisters?

I didn't know Spears had a sister either!

I just want to hit their mother upside the head. You would think she would have insisted her daughter take birth control.

I know sixteen is old enough to know better but I still think the mother is Captain of the ding squad.

But I have this strong opinion about parents who sell their children to Hollywood. It is the best way to ruin your kid.

@ 14, I agree. For a group that claims to be "progressive" and "open-minded", this post and these comments sound awfully judgemental. I sincerely doubt anyone has ever met either of the spears, regardless- its none of our business.

And if wishing a miscarriage upon a 16 year old girl is the new liberal philosophy, I'm ashamed to call myself liberal.

Furthermore, the primary reason that abortion is legal is because the law states that the government should have no control over the decisions a woman makes about her own body- which includes *keeping* the baby, if she so chooses.

@31, are you for real?

That girl has no idea what's going to happen to her and her body. She may have watched her sister have her babies, but it's oh so different when it's your body.

And -- not to be too patronizing to 16-year-olds, but that's a time of experimentation and pushing boundaries. Consequences don't have the same meaning as they do to adults. I'm not sure when adulthood is, but I'm pretty sure it's not 16.

Age of consent varies from state to state. In many places, a 16 year old girl's pregnancy will spell the statutory rape charges against the sperm donor (or father, whatever).

I googled the name "Casey Aldridge" (because I had no idea who he is) and found mention that he's 19.

So, depending upon the state in which the sexual intercourse occurred, Casey could be facing criminal charges and a permanent spot on a sexual offenders' list.

My heart breaks for the potential child that she's carrying. Having seen what her older sister's children are going through, wow.... what a future.

$50 says she's a more successful mom than her sister, her age notwithstanding. For starters, she's under far less media scrutiny. or at least she has been until now.

@34

Age of consent

LOUISIANA 17

Louisiana law allows prosecutors to seek the death penalty for people
convicted of having consensual sex with a person under 12 years old. The
Louisiana state Supreme Court declared the law constitutional in 1999
because of a 1977 U.S. Supreme Court ruling addressing the rape of an adult,
not a child. The U.S. Supreme Court in 1977 banned the death penalty for
raping adult women, but the justices did not say whether it could be applied
to child rapists. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the 1999 Louisiana
case, allowing the death penalty law to stand.

And, I don't think anybody is judging her because she's keeping the baby as opposed to having an abortion. If I'm judging her, it's because she didn't have the sense to use birth control.

The least you can do when you allow a young man to move into your 15 year old daughter's bedroom, is watch her take her pill every morning. Or take her to the doctor for a depo shot every couple of months. But they met at church so its OK!

Now we can congratulate Britney for waiting as long as she did to have her first child.

And Justin Timberlake's parents for teaching him not to get trapped by that skanky family.

@? people here are being judgmental not because they are not liberal, but because they can recognize a poor choice (to not use protection). there is a difference between being judgmental (on a blog no less) and passing laws to mandate behavior. now, if posters start saying that all 16 year old girls should have an abortion, or be reported to CPS... then you have grounds for complaint.

Anyway, you'd think Jamie Lynn would have learned a lesson from her big sister. I guess she learned the wrong lesson. I really thought she was the bright one.

I doubt Nick wants to write in a pregnancy for young innocent Zoey Brooks who has never even kissed a boy, nor would fictional Pacific Coast Academy, which only recently started accepting girls in the first place, want to deal with the scandal of just how unmanaged their newly-coed student body is.

Isabelita -

You are very right that the Spears don't 'believe' in abortion. Britney Spears is a big old anti-choice freak.

I guess ... how many of you KNOW people that are little bit fucked up from their parents who had you a little too young, and wish things were a little different, wish your parents and have known parents that should have exercised their rights a little bit more when they had them. What's done is done ... and you deal the best you can, but it really really sucks to watch your parents grow up sometimes, and sometimes, more often than people would like to admit, this country has enough fucked up people force raised by religion.

The sick about religion it can tell you to have a family, but it can't tell you to love it, or at least love it completely.

Call me, or ALL of us judgemental. But hoping for a miscarriage is just so we don't have to worry about another pissed off, compromised love, waste of space child to commit more violent crimes, and of course wrecklessly breed.

If they marry the problem of statutory rape would become moot and many states allow marriage at that age with parental consent. So, I wonder if there is a deal in the works for "OK!" to get an exclusive on the wedding pics. That would be both lucrative AND tasteless.
A rape trial would be more salacious and get more coverage, though, so I am sure the family is in a quandary.
