I think it's the spy cameras that the NSA insisted be installed there ...

Oops, I wasn't supposed to mention that, was I?

Light rail construction is well underway. Soon we will have speedy and spacious rail service from the DSTT to SeaTac airport (and back).

@1, I am watching you in the tunnel and listening to you on your AT&T cell phone.

Sound Transit really botched the tunnel upgrades, and not just with this new circuit board failure. Basic logistics like speaker volume and trash cans were screwed up for months

It could have been worse.

It could have been a Monorail that's system crashed.

Yes Nappy it is the monorail's fault. Or maybe the gay Pit Bull or Condo developers but not Sound Transit. And when the system doesn't work 300' underground with a burning train the firemen will have no problem reaching the bodies.

Well, at least the tunnel borer is safe.

We can use that for the extension to the UW.

If we had just put the monorail in the tunnel...I know....

Spangenthal-Lee is probably aware that whether light rail was going to be deployed in the tunnel or not, post-911 safety and security upgrades (yes, that means technology) would have been needed for those buses anyways.

Nice job with the faux populist outrage and sensationalism, tho'.

Retrofitting for joint bus and rail operations

The tunnel originally opened in 1990 and was due for upgrades to its electrical, mechanical, and safety systems.

Joint bus and rail operations will allow for maximum transit use of the tunnel. Part of Sound Transit’s retrofit work has been to install a state-of-the-art communication system and add the signaling and overhead catenary systems that will allow for joint operations. Buses and trains will alternate use of station platforms depending on schedule and riders will have a choice of transit options depending on their final destination.

Each of the underground stations is equipped with two sets of station exhaust fans, in addition to four high-volume emergency fans that provide emergency service to the tunnel. To supplement the ventilation capacity in each station under emergency circumstances the station exhaust fans were replaced with new units in order to meet National Fire Protection Association standards for such use.

See, and they thought I was joking.

Sigh. Silly Americans, still think you have rights.

The closed tunnel has meant the blissful absence of the incessant donging that I usually hear from my office. Sometimes I wonder if those people who were found dead in that building on 2nd and Yestler a while back had been listening to that for too long.

Wait, Brainiac, did you think I was being serious?

I blame the human race. If we hadn't come down out of the trees, none of this would be a problem.
