Atlas Clothing Is Moving

In the coming months, Capitol Hill’s Atlas Clothing will be moving from their warehouse on Broadway to an antique mall in Fremont. According to one Atlas employee, the building is being sold.

For now, Atlas has stopped buying clothing.

If only they'd gotten into the mega-lucrative all-ages show business sooner! They'd have been saved, just like in Empire Records!

Look, cochise, some below-the-board all-ages shows were never going to pay that place's rent, and above-the-board shows would've been even more unprofitable.

oooooo maybe we can get some lovely condos in that spot, yeah? Just what Capitol Hill needs! Hopefully the bottom will have a boutique with more name brands that that little rag shop has. It's such a hassle to drive downtown for clothes!

I'm really starting to be afraid of walking in my neighborhood at all. Every day it gets worse. Bleah.

Actually that's a great spot for a condo building, or maybe some new apartments. All of these people whining about condos are just doing it because their friends are. Evidently no one in Seattle is able to logically reason or think for themselves. Stupidity group-think in action. Kind of like the people who buy Macs.

Different building than Neighbors.

But if you put the Atlas clothing building together with what's on the north side (the Vietnamese eatery and barber/hair place that frame the entrance to a small parking lot), then you have a nice-sized footprint to put in a 6-story condo or apts with ground-level retail.

Then, after that is built (or in progress), the Neighbors building/parcel will be much too tempting to not replace with another 6-story building.

Can't wait to see how the PR firm hired by the developer tries to spin the marketing in order to convince prospective tenants into moving next door to a gay disco that attracts several hundred people until 2:00 a.m. most nights of the week.

Anybody want to start a pool on how long after the first tenant moves in it takes before the Mayors Office starts getting noise complaints?

Wow. We've gone from Atlas Clothing is moving, to including the barbershop & parking lot, to tearing them down, to building a six story condo, all the way to noise complaints already. Amazing reach.

@11 so you think that when those condos are up and Neighbors blasts the music at 2 am there will be no complaints and no problems? WOW, what planet are you living on?

Neighbors will be gone within the next 18 months. Mark my words.

uh, some folks are jumping to conclusions here; just because Atlas is moving doesn't mean the building is getting torn down.

Anyone wanting to develop new construction NOW, would be an idiot. Seattle is already facing a monstrous glut in condos due to the enormous amount of new buildings either completed or underway.

Who the fuck is going to live in all these units? are we expecting 20,000 people to up and move to urban Seattle in the next year or two? I know growth projections are strong, but it's going to take a long time to fill what we've already got.

We should probably write some letters to the mayor. Yeah. That will fix it. Wait. Isn't this all bushes fault?

If Clinton were around, atlas clothing would still be on Broadway and it would be covered in snow because global warming wouldn't exist.


Whatever. The bigger news is that junky building on Pine and Bellevue across from Mud Bay is finally going to meet the maker. I was wondering how long that would take, but again, with bush, "good development" takes longer. If Clinton was around, that building would be turned into solid gold artists lofts with free rent.

wha? fremont is a snoozfest...I guess, yet its full of clubs/bars, bike shops, a long standing anitque mall (where Atlas is moving), clothing stores, a couple record's thankfully NOT like Capitol Hill as the Hill is balls now. The only people that seem to think the Hill still counts like it DID are those still affected by the chronic "I never leave the Hill" issue.

Sorry Nipper, but the new and improved Fremont is a bland, yuppie version of what it used to be. It's gone downhill since they built all those ugly ass commercial buildings along the ship canal; I call that street the Concrete Jungle. I still love the few remaining junk/antique/vintage stores in the hood, but the restaurants are all only ok and the nightlife is groovy if you're an aging frat boy. The rest is all poncy little boutiques catering to yuppie women. And how much longer are the funky junky stores going to be around? The rent in that neighborhood is high and getting higher.

Fremont DOES suck donkey balls, with the exception of Paseo, Theo Chocolate, that one Mexican restaurant, PCC, and two of the several small bookstores. Ah, well... I guess it doesn't suck donkey balls after all. (GETTING there and back sucks donkey balls, indeed.)
