…inspired the dark and ghostly mood of Burial’s dub.

Burial:

“…i made music with [Casebere’s] pictures next to me. i go into solitary empty spaces and dream of a kind of emptiness that he has in his photos. in my dreams my music would be echoing in those rooms.”

burial.jpg To adequately express the way I feel about Burial’s dub, I must borrow the words of The Everly Brothers: “I die each time I hear the sound.”

Dear Charles,

This album has been out for quite some time now. You have mentioned its existence--as well as posted the album art--238,439 times since its release, for...uh, no real reason at all.

If you would like to discuss "real reason" sometime, you know where to find me. (ICYDK; I cycle downtown dumpsters every night. It's hard to find me, but it's worth it when you do--'cause I have candy. Candy for you!!!)

Weird. I was listening to Burial's "Untrue" when your post popped up in my feed reader.

mudede:

i bought burial's first album (c.hill's sonic boom didn't have the new one) because your raving intrigued me.

texturally, burial's sound is everything you said it is (i do love when plinking coins or gun noises take over parts traditionally left to drums).

but i missed the melodies everyone's loving. the detached, smoke-voice samples are pleasant, but none of them rise above repetitive and none are- even from a strictly rhythmic stance- cleverly employed.

i like the individual elements of burial's sound, but what about some attention to composition? i don't need cookie-cutter pop structures, but i need to follow some momentum.

somebody tell me what point i'm missing.

Ndrwmtsn, I felt exactly the same way about Burial's debut. I just didn't get what all the raving was about. But I'm feeling the new one a lot more. I'm still not sure it's "the only sound" or "the future of music" or whatever other hyperbole Charles uses, but it's a good record.

Your taste in music and architecture are very similar, Charles.
