Slog - Comments on As Long As We're Selling Everything...

Why not the Comet? From Craigslist: Seattle's oldest bar - $400000 Seattle’s oldest tavern/bar, centrally located in Capitol Hill. Very established. Possible Class H and pull tabs. NDA required. DO NOT TALK TO EMPLOYEES. I took the listing down to the Comet and showed bartender Raymond Kemp. He hadn't seen it, but he didn't seem surprised. "Well, there you go," he said. "Every bar in town is for sale."...

#3, I think Jules Mae's WOULD be, but I don't think it's current location is its original. Plus, Georgetown was a city, not annexed into Seattle until 1910-11, so they may be out on a technicality. I'm sure it was a pretty awesome place to hang after Seattle Indian's games.

The Central is older too, but I'm not sure if it's been "continuously operated" or not.

I can see the press release now: Introducing "OddFellows South", the new development that will be the companion to the critically acclaimed "OddFellows Studios"! These brand new luxury condos will be crafted for the new urban hipster, and will make the renovation of the historic OddFellows Hall on the north end of the block possible. Wrap yourself in every modern luxury as you feel the authentic urban grit rising from the grounds of the former Comet Tavern. The lobby will contain tasteful displays of local luminary memorabilia so that you can amuse your friends with your knowledge of "grunge culture" while sipping cocktails at any of the adorable upscale watering holes on the block. You too can live in Capitol Hill's ground zero for the rock lifestyle! Studio apartments start at $450K.....

The original Norman invaders were Norse, but by 1066 that was just a memory. The people were indigenous. Not everybody is a king.

The Canterbury Tales were three hundred years later.

I guess Will is just getting the Normans (invaded 1066) confused with earlier Danish settlers and attempted conquerors. In the centuries leading up to the Norman conquest, the Danes managed to seize much of England at various times, although never Wessex.

When I moved here two years ago from Manhattan everyone in Seattle was going on and on about The Comet. I don't get it.

I wish the Comet would close and a real bar would open up. I prefer a place that offers goat cheese crustini, and some hand crafted organic Meads. The Comet is the type of "Old Seattle" place that needs to be bulldozed so real urban living can spread throughout Capital Hill.
