There are lots of "oldest bars", because they're all dating from Repeal. I think the REAL oldest is Jules Mae's. The oldest restaurant is the Merchant's Cafe.

#3, I think Jules Mae's WOULD be, but I don't think it's current location is its original. Plus, Georgetown was a city, not annexed into Seattle until 1910-11, so they may be out on a technicality. I'm sure it was a pretty awesome place to hang after Seattle Indian's games.

The Central is older too, but I'm not sure if it's been "continuously operated" or not.

Well this sucks if it is really true that the Comet is for sale.

Maybe I am paranoid but all of this seems a bit to coincidental considering that has happened in the course of a week (showbox sold to a huge corporation, crocodile closing, noise ordinance passing...).

Like the Croc, the dilapidated building the Comet rents in (apartments above "uninhabitable," says the County) has been owned for a long time by a crabby, quirky landlord.

Like the Croc, the County Assessor values the building the Comet rents in at $1,000 while the land is over a million.

I guess Will is just getting the Normans (invaded 1066) confused with earlier Danish settlers and attempted conquerors. In the centuries leading up to the Norman conquest, the Danes managed to seize much of England at various times, although never Wessex.

When I moved here two years ago from Manhattan everyone in Seattle was going on and on about The Comet. I don't get it.

I wish the Comet would close and a real bar would open up. I prefer a place that offers goat cheese crustini, and some hand crafted organic Meads. The Comet is the type of "Old Seattle" place that needs to be bulldozed so real urban living can spread throughout Capital Hill.

Jules Maes is in it's original,old location - but it sat empty for quite a while before being bought and thoroughly (and nicely)renovated...
