That's horrible. Can't we issue bounties for these guys? Or, failing that, publish their names, pictures, addresses, and emails in every major American city?

Inconveniently for Justice, Defense, State, and Bush, her champion is a right-wing Texas Republican and war supporter, the disturbingly named Mr. Poe.

I hope that the very first thing the new President does on January 20, 2009 is issue an executive order barring the employment of any past or present Halliburton or KBR employee by any part of the Federal Government.

this is terrible. justice needs to be served here, and people need to be better protected in the future from these types of crimes.

Sadly, this is what happens when there is no accountability nor oversight.

Poor girl.

i hear this story, and i'm glad they got her out alive. the guard that let her use his phone might have saved her life. rescuing her was heroic. (and damning, since they found her in the container.) seriously, there needs to be some justice here.

hey packratt (another victim needing justice) - ever thought of filing a civil suit against any of the "witnesses" the police interviewed upon your arrest? i mean, they have to have names, right?

Au contraire, Mr. Poe. Your congressional namesake is pursuing this with zeal and integrity.

Is he? I didn't read it. I tend to not read about rape as much as possible, actually.

Why don't we waterboard Bush and Cheney about this for a few weeks just to be sure ... at GITMO.

I'm sure they'll confess they did it ... themselves.

If it's true, this is a terrible thing.

@8

Need to find a lawyer I can afford who will listen first. But thanks for the suggestion.

Several of my friends in the Navy have been sent to Iraq to fill in where the Army doesn't have enough boots. The women all hear the same two pieces of advice from women who have been there:
1. Make yourself as unattractive as you're able.
2. Stay away from contractors.

My sense is these incidents are far too common over there and I hope she inspires others to come forward.

I'm disturbed that I have yet to see this story on any major news outlets (other than ABC, of course). It's been on blogs all day but a check of CNN and WaPo (that's as far as my research got, sorry) shows they haven't touched the story yet. What's up?

#11, I think she looks like a country singer. I don't know which one though.

Didn't they just murder a bunch of people with impunity last month? Why should they worry about getting away with a little gang rape?

@11--she looks like a young Catherine O'Hara, of SCTV, Waiting for Guffmann, and Home Alone fame.

She's like a bunk balance of O'Hara and Griffin.

Here, I posted about why it's actually so difficult to get a lawyer to file suit in my blog in case you want the long of it...

Of course her attackers need to be brought to justice, but what was she thinking working for Halliburton in the first place? Like signing on with Satan's workshop.

The legal loophole also means those good folks at Blackwater are free to go vigilante on the perpetrators of the crime.

If those bastards thought/knew they could get away with assaulting an American, I shudder to think of what they're doing to Iraqi women. Then there's the additional horror of some of those women subsequently being the victims of honor killings.

28, i was thinking the same thing. what has derek schlesinger and his ilk been up to over there that we'll never find out about, and that they'll never be punished for. and then it's the poor victims who get axed due to their barbarian religion if anyone of their own finds out about it. just so awful.
