War on Immigrants

posted by on November 6 at 15:16 PM

Italy’s Mexicans.

ROME - Opposition leader Silvio Berlusconi urged Italy to close its borders to Romanian workers and a conservative ally called Sunday for the expulsion of tens of thousands of immigrants amid public outrage over a wave of violent crimes blamed on foreigners.
Illegal immigrants are the niggers of the 21st century.

For once I totally agree. Not just "illegal", either. It's pure scapegoating, of course.

I have to admit that seeing the streets of every European city clogged with "Gypsy" beggar women with babies in their arms, usually as part of a pickpocket ring, is a little disconcerting. Literally hundreds of them in Dublin.

Immigrants; everybody has them and nobody likes them.

I'm thinking about moving to Mexico.

What if anybody else at the Stranger said "Illegal immigrants are the niggers of the 21st century"?

Mexico treats its central american immigrants one hundred times worse than Mexicans are treated here. Argentina treats its Peruanos and Bolivian immigrants like garbage and Immigrants world wide suffer from xenophobia. The Rumanians treat their Roma population like dirt, and when in Italy they get blamed for everything that the Albanians use to get blamed for. Rumanian populations are big in Rome and Milan but truth be told the Mexicans of italy are the Arab and Albanians. Ive said it before when it comes to immigration the Europeans are way worse than here.

Spain treats its south american immigrants like garbage. The guy on this tube video was released after the Barcelona judge said that he did not really hurt the young woman.

Gypsies are hardly Italy's Mexicans. That is a pretty harsh slap to the Mexicans.

The Mexicans in the USA are actually beneficial to society and integrate fairly well compared to the gypsies. Gypsies for the most part dont want to be integrated in Italy, just live on the margins begging and pick pocketing stupid tourists. If I remember correctly, the last major attempt to increase their standard of living through public housing was a total disaster ending with the gypsies dismantling what was built for them and selling the materials as scrap.

Immigration is in a totally different realm in Europe, trying to compare the two shows a total lack of understanding of the situation. Its like trying compare immigration into the UAE from Bangladesh to immigration into South Africa from Zimbabwe.

oh, and Romanians and gypsies are two totally different things, the media seems to be confused on that.

Ive actually been to Italy a number of times, my nieces are Italian, and my brother lives in Umbria and its just a stupid lie to say that the Roma do not want to integrate and are just pick pockets. Italy is not interested in integrating immigrants and not just gypsies some of whom are Italian citizens, their institutions are very white and racists despite the fact that they havea huge population of Arabs, Albanians and lately south americans. There is blatant racism in Europe when it comes to the Roma and there is blatan racism in Rumanian towards the ROma( gyppsies) When I was in Bucarest I was stopped constantly because police mistook me for a gipsy and was not treated nicely. It is different to experience Europe in a brown skin. The only place I felt that made attempts at integrating was the UK and Ireland and Im not saying they dont have problems with racism, but it is not as isolating as the rest of Europe. For example in parts of Ireland ( the republic) legal resident immigrants can vote.

I wish i could find some articles about the integration attempts here (yes, i live in italy right now... and have for quite a while). I will admit that that is a stupid comment to make without anything to back it with.

One thing you really cant argue with assuming it is true is Veltroni (mayor of Rome) saying that 75% of arrests for murder, rape, and robbery there have been related to "Romanians."

If you will look closely at my post you will see quotation marks around the word "Gypsy". That's because I'm quoting someone, namely everyone in Ireland and Italy and Spain and France who uses the word to refer to the people I'm talking about -- the young women with the brightly colored garments and the babies in their arms, and usually a gang of pickpockets a dozen yards away watching surreptitiously. The reason I used the quotation marks is because I didn't want to start yet another incredibly boring conversation about who the Romanians and the Roma and the Gypsies REALLY are. We both know who I'm talking about -- not Gypsies but "Gypsies", those women. Every single person in Italy, Ireland, etc. will say "oh, you mean the Gypsies, yeah, they're all thieves, don't give them anything, don't fall for the 'I found this ring' story, etc.".

If it gets you excited to talk about something else instead, I'm sorry that you are so confused.

OK, you've sucked me in.

If the mayor of Rome has really said that 75% of all arrests are Romanians, he's full of shit. Charles's point in full effect, in fact. I have frequently heard similar comments made about Mexicans in the US, from the increasingly vocal and increasingly nativist and stupid anti-immigrant crowd.

I don't know what they're doing about it in Rome but I know that in this country they are for the most part taking out this misplaced anger on LEGAL immigrants, and tourists.

"75% of arrests for murder, rape, and robbery there have been related to "Romanians."

Allow me to call you a testa di cazzo. I heard this crap in Napoli too about the immigrants eventhough ALL crime is carried out by the camorra. What a load of crap. If they want to make arrests, all they need to do is go to a Lazio match.

allow me to call him and anybody who beleives him a testa di cazzo.

Same crap I heard in Napoli, eventhough, all crime in Napoli is carried out by the camorra. If the mayor of Rome who will eventually be found to have links to the mafia like all italian politicians, thinks this is the case than Charles made his point.

@6 I never hear that Mexicans are beneficial to society. I hear a whole lot of complaints and what I perceive as a socially accepted prejudice.
Fnarf I love hearing what you have to say about immigration. You should write a book or a least a slog article on it because your views are unique. Unfortunately most people do not share your views but I wish they did.

SeMe, you seem to know your calcio pretty well, bravo on the Lazio comment, couldn’t agree more.

ALL crime is carried out by the mafia in Naples? Saying that without backing it with some form of citation is on par in stupidity with my saying the stuff about integration earlier.

When was the last time you were in Italy? Compare Tiburtina or EUR neighborhoods of ten years ago to now. It is a totally different situation today, granted both were pretty scummy to begin with, now it is near impossible to leave the station at Tiburtina without getting fucked with by either Albanians or Rom.

What Veltroni said makes sense when you think about the low level of petty street crime here before the open borders with the new EU states. Last time i checked the maffia wasnt big on robbery and rape... plus Naples sure as shit isnt Rome.

fuck, its a quarter to 2 here. i should sleep!

I said the camorra not the mafia. You can pick up any paper other than the repubblica and know that all crime there is controlled by the camorra. you cant even sell bread there without the camorra having something to do with it. I was in Rome last year. Rome is a pretty safe city. My feeling of the arrests is that the police target foreigners and overlook

my attitude towards hatred towards immigrants is this....I am an immigrant and you Americans have 2 choices, treat me well and get treated well, treat me bad and you can go fuck yourselves. I refuse to contribute anything to your country but I sure as hell will buy up a bunch of property when real estate is cheap, wait for prices to jump up causing rents to raise and then rent you my places at a 100 percent profit since your rent is double what I pay in mortgage...so if hate me..fuck you I don't care.

So Romano Prodi complains about the Romanians in Rome, but the Romanians in Romania say it's not the Romanians to be worried about, but rather the Roma. Does that sound about Right?

I was actually just having a conversation about this, sort of. It was agreed that if forced to choose, swapping out illegal Irish and Australians (there's TONS of'em here that overstay their visas) for more Mexicans would be preferable.
