Last week. Permanent absentee ballot. Polling places can be mildly inconvenient. One year it was at The Church of Scientology on 3rd (no kidding - but I think someone might have complained because by the following election the county had changed the location). Now my polling place is somewhere in the confines of Yesler Terrace. Who chooses these sites? Anyway, no place is as convenient as home.

The only drag about absentee voting is that my vote may not be recorded for days. Wasn't there a time when absentee ballots were counted first?

Comment by Will in 98103

I keep forgetting that my absentee status has run out, so I have to vote in person tonight after work. And now I'm wavering on RTID. I was for it, then I was against it, then I was for it again less strongly, and then I was against it more strongly, and now after reading Joel Connelly's admittedly scattershot column about the implications of its failing, I'm leaning towards voting for it again. I keep thinking about Warren Magnuson and the political realities of getting what you want: you have to get some things you don't want at the same time.

And if I'd voted by absentee three weeks ago as I'd planned, I would have voted for Bruce Harrell. I was mad at Venus for making a bad decision in terms of drinking and driving before the election. But now I'm going to vote for Venus after all, which was my original thought before she got her DUI.

So I guess the Sierra Club and Bruce Harrell are not happy that I'm voting on Election Day as opposed to voting early by mail!

Cressona I know you're so pumped up steam is clouding your vision but I didn't say I had any inside polling info. What I said was, the fact that the Gov met with her highway director over the weekend to talk about what to do if it failed is not a sign of confidence and could well mean their polling wasn't looking good.

Okay, random bitching aside... I voted over the weekend and dropped the ballot in the mail on Monday.

I voted yes on the RTID Prop 1. I abstained from the KC Prosecutors race, but did write in a vote for Zombie Norm Maleng. I voted down the initiatives, as usual. I abstained from the Della/Burgess race. I voted for Sally Clark and Joe Szwaja (for his stance on housing development). I voted, with great nausea but with purpose that should be somewhat clear to Sloggers by now, for Bruce Harrell. I was pretty much with the Stranger on the Port and School Board positions... except for siding with Maria Ramirez over Steve Sundquist, as Ramirez's credentials are more practical.

The Stranger disagrees on Sundquist, though.

So glad to se people voting Yes for Roads & Transit.

I will be seriously bummed out to see anti density, anti gay, anti choice, pointy headed anal retentive Tim Burgess get elected to the Seattle City Council. Tim does not represent my urban values -- which he has made abundantly clear in so many ways. Even if you can get past his work with CWfA and his insulting 2005 Op-Ed, he is still closely aligned with (people like Jeannie Hale from Montlake and other) uptight anti-density, anti-renter folk.

Voted last night at about 1am, dropped the ballot off at TT Minor on my way to work. Funny how elementary school still smell like concrete, linoleum, construction paper, and paste.

I voted for Venus, Maria Ramirez, Szwaja, Sherman, No on Eyman...I really went back and forth about the Roads/Transit one. I think I said No - but was so close to voting Yes that I may have done it. I could see big potential for regret either way.

SOME PRACTICAL TIPS -

1. You may take your mail in ballot to a polling place, any polling place - or mail it. It must be in the mail today, postmarked, or it will not be counted.

2. If you have any problems, did not receive a ballot, not sure you are registered, whatever, go to a polling place and you will be able to vote by provisional ballot.

3. If you have spoiled your ballot, go to a polling place and vote provisional ballot, and completely destroy the old ballot.

4. If you think there is any real issue go downtown to the County Admin. Bldg. and do it in person. Lines, but they have extra staff and move quickly.

5. Ballots in many languages are at polling places. Ask.

6. It is OK to take notes, phamplets, cheat sheets to the polling booth to help you mark you ballot.

VOTE - SEVERAL IS THESE CONTESTS WILL BE CLOSE

What 11 said!

Not in the paper, but on Slog, at the Slogger's descretion, I think it would be great to hear individual takes on voting preferences from Dan, Erica, Josh, Eli, Dominic, etc. and just leave it at that.

Too many people assume The Stranger is just this one-voice thing. Sure, that's the end product, but internally that's obviously not the case. Why not show a little of that variety?

1. Lioght rail failed the first time then they came back one year later and it passed. It can come back again..
2. France just announced a policy of no new roads. All money to go to rail.
3. In England they are going to weigh garbage to reduce waste in landfills.
4. In NYC the mayor is pushing for congestion pricing. They already have it in London. It works.
5. For Seattle to vote yes on prop. 1 including billions and billions of new roads is backward and harmful and not environmental.
It is so very 1950's.
MSNBC is spending all week on the environment.
Now is the time for Seattle to reject global warming, and be leaders on the environement, and vote no on Prop. 1.

There is a better way.

Or, you could pass prop. 1 and be known around the world as auto-loving dinosaurs who are living in the 1960s and who don't care.

Kind of like Pat Buchanan who is on tv laughing about climate change.

Still haven't decided on Prop. 1 because I've only half completed door-belling the entire populace to ascertain what each of you wants, needs, will or will not utilize, are happy/sad about, and how you have been (dis)enfranchised. Certain votes: for Sherman (19 years in one job equals cement) - for Velasquez (I was once DUI in El Paso!) - for Burgess (because we all can change and his resume is superior) and Joe Btfsplk* (because Seattle needs a nicey-nice gossip columnist). I too vote in a church - but remember it's only an assemblage of bricks and wood and truly cannot harm you or yours. GOY

Will in Seattle - There is no way that Christine Gregoire is going to let ST2 on the ballot with her re-election run against Rossi. If this does not pass today 2009 will be the earliest (but don't count on that either).

A No vote today will definitely mean going back to the drawing board to work with the over 50 jurisdictions that are a part of the regional planning process for ST. It won't be a simple pairing down process, there are just way too many interests at the table. But if Chris Gregorie and Joni Earl can pull that off, then they should be appointed for life because that would nothing less than a minor miracle.

Voted two weeks ago. Voted for Prop. 1, because I think waiting for the Perfect Package is asinine. T'ain't gonna happen. Sometimes you gotta take the best you can get, compromise a little, and try to get some more rapid transit infrastructure built however you can do it.

I'll basically vote for anything that lays even one more mile of track anywhere. Once it's there, it's there, and it'll get used eventually. But waiting for the perfect proposition that makes everyone happy? In Seattle? Ha ha!

the so called alternative media is gutless

the night Venus got whacked for drunk driving, Burgess was at the same party

did he drive home drunk? too?

ah, but Dan now likes him, hence no story

I voted for Della, there is a new rumor Burgess is CIA as well as all the rest

fits exactly

I should point out, since no one else mentioned it, that we made the Wall Street Journal coverage today with an entire article just on our RTID/ST2 vote - even if they got the criticisms wrong.

I left my copy at Essential Bakery or the page reference would be here, but it was there.
