Last week. Permanent absentee ballot. Polling places can be mildly inconvenient. One year it was at The Church of Scientology on 3rd (no kidding - but I think someone might have complained because by the following election the county had changed the location). Now my polling place is somewhere in the confines of Yesler Terrace. Who chooses these sites? Anyway, no place is as convenient as home.

The only drag about absentee voting is that my vote may not be recorded for days. Wasn't there a time when absentee ballots were counted first?

I think you guys should publish individual endorsements, at least on the Slog.

Those ballots that arrived in time for signatures to be verified will be counted when the polls close and we get the first report about 8:15 - 8:30. The rest of them will be counted as they come and are verified.

I keep forgetting that my absentee status has run out, so I have to vote in person tonight after work. And now I'm wavering on RTID. I was for it, then I was against it, then I was for it again less strongly, and then I was against it more strongly, and now after reading Joel Connelly's admittedly scattershot column about the implications of its failing, I'm leaning towards voting for it again. I keep thinking about Warren Magnuson and the political realities of getting what you want: you have to get some things you don't want at the same time.

And if I'd voted by absentee three weeks ago as I'd planned, I would have voted for Bruce Harrell. I was mad at Venus for making a bad decision in terms of drinking and driving before the election. But now I'm going to vote for Venus after all, which was my original thought before she got her DUI.

So I guess the Sierra Club and Bruce Harrell are not happy that I'm voting on Election Day as opposed to voting early by mail!

What I said was, the fact that the Gov met with her highway director over the weekend to talk about what to do if it failed is not a sign of confidence and could well mean their polling wasn't looking good.

Last night, over dinner. And I ticked 'yes' for RTID/ST2 as well. Maybe it's because my wife used to work for PSRC and I have some idea how long they've been working to get that thing cobbled together, or maybe I just like trains? I don't know, but it did ache a bit to go against the Sierra Club like that.

This has got to be one of the most difficult elections ever. I can't decide. I'm really only sure about voting against Eyman again.

I'm voting at home, last minute with my absentee ballot. It's my Miller time since I work night shift so I'm at my desk surrounded by Tecate's while voting pretty much with the Strangers suggestions except for transit and trying to decide on Ramirez and Initiative 25.

Okay, random bitching aside... I voted over the weekend and dropped the ballot in the mail on Monday.

I voted yes on the RTID Prop 1. I abstained from the KC Prosecutors race, but did write in a vote for Zombie Norm Maleng. I voted down the initiatives, as usual. I abstained from the Della/Burgess race. I voted for Sally Clark and Joe Szwaja (for his stance on housing development). I voted, with great nausea but with purpose that should be somewhat clear to Sloggers by now, for Bruce Harrell. I was pretty much with the Stranger on the Port and School Board positions... except for siding with Maria Ramirez over Steve Sundquist, as Ramirez's credentials are more practical.

I'm gonna vote this afternoon at my son's school while I'm there to pick him up. It's so convenient that I'd be mighty pissed if they moved it to a church.

The fact that Dan was a dissenting vote on the SECB prop 1 position should be no surprise to Slog regulars. What's a little surprising is the vote for Burgess.

KX: IMO, no on 25, because the irony should be obvious in electing an elections director, and no on Sundquist. The guy is a career tool and a glorified soccer dad. Ramirez has active experience in helping improve education for minorities, the WASL and other practical matters... all from the outside looking in.

Well, given the city council races and the toilet both smell like shit, i can't blame you, Tony.

Voted last night at about 1am, dropped the ballot off at TT Minor on my way to work. Funny how elementary school still smell like concrete, linoleum, construction paper, and paste.

I voted for Venus, Maria Ramirez, Szwaja, Sherman, No on Eyman...I really went back and forth about the Roads/Transit one. I think I said No - but was so close to voting Yes that I may have done it. I could see big potential for regret either way.

Burgess/Della was a lose/lose race. I couldn't get beyond Burgess' anti-lots of things important to me past and reluctantly voted for Della.

SOME PRACTICAL TIPS -

1. You may take your mail in ballot to a polling place, any polling place - or mail it. It must be in the mail today, postmarked, or it will not be counted.

2. If you have any problems, did not receive a ballot, not sure you are registered, whatever, go to a polling place and you will be able to vote by provisional ballot.

3. If you have spoiled your ballot, go to a polling place and vote provisional ballot, and completely destroy the old ballot.

4. If you think there is any real issue go downtown to the County Admin. Bldg. and do it in person. Lines, but they have extra staff and move quickly.

5. Ballots in many languages are at polling places. Ask.

6. It is OK to take notes, phamplets, cheat sheets to the polling booth to help you mark you ballot.

I voted last night during Jeopardy and this morning while waiting for my shower to heat up. Voted "no" on Prop 1, which made me sad, even though it's probably the best vote.

At the risk of sounding like a bad person is it unreasonable to assume that anyone voting has a decent command of the english language? I mean they had to pass the citizenship test right? I'm not interested in disenfranchising anyone, I'm just scratching my head.

@30: Vote No on I-25. The only reason it's on the ballot is because all the right-wing wack jobs are convinced that Ron Sims's appointed election director stole the 2004 gubernatorial election from Dino Rossi. So, if for no other reason, vote No on I-25 to demoralize those right wing wackos. A defeat will have them self-immolating in the fuel of their own conspiracy theories for months to come.

Too many people assume The Stranger is just this one-voice thing. Sure, that's the end product, but internally that's obviously not the case. Why not show a little of that variety?

A week ago, simultaneously at my keyboard slogging. Voted for RTID because I don't believe "Option B" exists. Voted in the Issaquah city counsel races but I won't bore you with those details as you all would spontaneously combust.

1. Lioght rail failed the first time then they came back one year later and it passed. It can come back again..
2. France just announced a policy of no new roads. All money to go to rail.
3. In England they are going to weigh garbage to reduce waste in landfills.
4. In NYC the mayor is pushing for congestion pricing. They already have it in London. It works.
5. For Seattle to vote yes on prop. 1 including billions and billions of new roads is backward and harmful and not environmental.
It is so very 1950's.
MSNBC is spending all week on the environment.
Now is the time for Seattle to reject global warming, and be leaders on the environement, and vote no on Prop. 1.

Voted two weeks ago. Two friends who are voting today said they had just decided to vote No on RTID/ST2 since they realized the Sierra Club was endorsing a No vote.

Looking forward to the ST2.1 vote in Feb 2008 and the Critical Bridges and Highways ballot issue next fall. When the massive pro-Dem turnout happens.

Will in Seattle - There is no way that Christine Gregoire is going to let ST2 on the ballot with her re-election run against Rossi. If this does not pass today 2009 will be the earliest (but don't count on that either).

A No vote today will definitely mean going back to the drawing board to work with the over 50 jurisdictions that are a part of the regional planning process for ST. It won't be a simple pairing down process, there are just way too many interests at the table. But if Chris Gregorie and Joni Earl can pull that off, then they should be appointed for life because that would nothing less than a minor miracle.

65. And then, even if they get it on the ballot, try coming back to the same citizens who shot Prop 1 down and asking them AGAIN to fund billions of dollars in light rail. They're gonna remember voting it down and why they voted it down (for most of them, it's the taxes and the construction and the amount of time it will take to actualize; not within many voters' lifetiems), and regardless of the differences in package, it's gonna get voted down again, especially if any of it is funded with MVET fees.
