Show me one female politician that is brave enough to not wear pants suits.
My mother's first day of school she was sent home for a clothing change. Her immigrant parents were unaware of Americans' irrational bias against women, or 5-year-old girls, wearing pants.
I used to hate wearing skirts and dresses. I loved how they made me look, but I hated what they made me do -- walk prettily, sit with my thighs clamped together. In the winter, I needed a giant, long coat to cover my legs because there are no long socks or pantyhose made on this earth that can withstand -20C winters (plus wind chill).
Leggings make it so much fucking easier, and they fit every time. I'm never putting mine away. Fuck anyone who thinks they're passe or tacky.
Well.
It depends on who they are.
Everyone's different.
I'm so glad that the empowerment of women has settled this question once and for all.
I'm in an a-line skirt right now and I love it. Waaay more flattering than pants.
And I take the even more controversial position that men look better in skirts, too. Thanks, Bethany!
Susie
I love skirts and Susie Bright. I refuse to accept that women don't look hot in jeans, though, that's just crazy. Observe:
You can't say this isn't the best currently socially acceptable way to check out a woman's ass.
I'm sorry, when Kate @6 said that my brain stopped working for a few seconds ... what were we talking about again?
Gloria @3, 20º C is pretty darned warm!
I love wearing skirts (or more accurately dresses). Pants are fine though. My partner loves my ass in jeans, so . . .
In short, I'm really glad we women have a choice!
skirts & boots season is my favorite time of the year.
except for bikini season. which much exist somewhere.
Well Susie, the great city of Seattle is home to both The Stranger and the Utili-Kilt factory.
Oh no men DO NOT look good in Utlikilts. That there is birth control.
Where what you fucking want. It's what you wear with it that determines whether or not it looks good: guy or girl. And yes, I look damn good in a skirt.
*Wear.
It totally depends on how you are built. I have girl friends who don't look great in pants in general and look good in skirts.
I only look good in fitted skirts because I'm small on the bottom and have wider shoulders. If I use loose skirts it makes me look wide all over.
Pants in general look better on me although I do like skirts.
So I don't buy into the idea that all women look great in skirts.
I do buy into the idea that women politicians look horrible in those suits they wear.
@16,
There's also something truly terrible about the word "pantsuit." Everytime I hear it I shudder.
I like skirts just fine, except when I'm at work. Underfloor air conditioning + skirt = frozen butt cheeks. Oh, and inappropriate-for-work revelations of underpants status.
Susie, tell the commenter on your website who has problems with thigh chafing to try bloomers. Seriously. They're easy to make, comfy, and can be made very cute. Having gone through my ren-faire phase, I still maintain a certain nostalgia for lace-edged bloomers or pantaloons.
17, there's something even worse about the word "utili-kilt."
I agree with Poe. God, how is this controversial?
Agree that this depends on how you're built. I look better in skirts and almost always wear them in the summer. But, skirts can be rough in Chicago winters...
@10: I was talking minus!
what about the ac/dc's, those that go both ways, looking good in skirts and/or pants, or both @ the same time. and hot in bloomers, and or nothing????
I still remember one of my colleagues in the Canadian Army. In a skirt she looked nice, but in slacks she was smoking hot.
There were a few who didn't look like much in slacks (they were models who were in reserve units, not really into them), but were quite fetching in a skirt or dress.
Everyone's different.
Oh my god -- "THE LADIES"???
Please, PLEASE make this Slog heading go away and never come back!
