Why the Hell didn't he say he was trying out his Halloween costume for authenticity?

Fantastic. How much for a Schum-job, love?

At least that one has a new twist to it; he was being enterprising and only victimizing himself. I think he's a far-cry from most of the perverse freaks you're implying he's similar to.

this one would look just fine all naked and ready - get him to move to Seattle

and is the new Stranger, looking at all the kinks out there?

I agree with Carollani...

@3 - I agree, but I wonder if he encourages the trans-gender students in his high school to be so freely expressive of their identities...

I hope this doesn't impact his ability to command respect from his teenage students.

“no reason for why he was in alley…dressed up in women’s leather other than for prostitution.” i do not like that being in a certain alley is enough to be arrested with intent known, and cannot take joy in such an arrest.

Maybe he was fighting crime by dressing up as the Black Canary!

Don't they have Halloween in Kentucky? Further, I would never have suspected Louisville had alleys that respectable people couldn't walk down.

But if this is true: I knew Catholic school teachers didn't get paid much, but I never suspected the principals would have to turn tricks to make ends meet.

I agree with Carollani as well on this one, he may have been whoring himself out but he wasn't taking advantage of anyone (aside from his wife's ignorance) nor abusing anyone. A post like this just pushes more "wierdo transvestite" stories, and we got enough of those thankyou.

I was reading some comments in a local paper. Apparently he used to be a power lifter. Hmmm. . . Let's hope there are pictures!

The cross-dressing angle isn't the important angle here. It's the head-of-a-religious-school angle that's interesting. And that assistant head of the school looks a little suspect, too. Check out the website.

What @3 said. Unless you can point to this guy actively campaigning for a right-wing agenda in some way or other, this is just taunting an average schlub, and beneath the Slog's, er, consistently high standards.

He should just admit he's bisexual and leave it at that.

Although, actually, most cross-dressers aren't bisexual or gay, but hetero.

"Unless you can point to this guy actively campaigning for a right-wing agenda in some way or other..."

He _is_ the principal of a Catholic school. I'd say the odds on him pushing a right-wing agenda are reasonably high. Not 100%, but round about 75-ish would be my guess.

The fact that he is secretly a cross-dressing prostitute is all the evidence that you need to prove that he is also a rabid social conservative.

He could have just said he was on his way to a Rudi Giuliani dress-up party; that should have gotten him off scott-free!

Is there some evidence that this guy did or said anything harmful to anybody? I haven't seen any. Geez, leave the guy alone.

This guy's personal life is his own business. We (the socially liberal) gain nothing and lose much by a war on alternate sexuality.

I don't care who blows the president. I don't care which legislator dresses pretty and solicits prostitutes. I don't care which national figure seeks semi-public oral sex.

Hypocrisy is interesting only to teenagers and scolds.

Thank goodness most of the posters here understand.

From the web site:
Dr. Paul Schum, Principal – Bachelor of Science, Centre College; Master of Arts in Teaching, University of Louisville; Doctorate of Educational Leadership, Spalding University. Twenty-six years of experience at St. Xavier High School, Louisville. Currently teaches Chemistry.

I agree, we shouldn't rush to judge someone who is not on the record opposing gay rights. Most of us have been associated with religion sometime in our past, very often leading a dual life. What makes it wrong is being actively engaged in anti-gay politics, not just passively part of an organization that is anti-gay like the Catholics.

When Dan Savage was into his glam drag days - fussy about his make up I hear - did he ever slink around alleys and other "known hangouts"?

I think so

This guy looks to me like a total winner in life. Seems he likes the under belly of every urban enviro.

Yes, drag him to Seattle. I want him in costume - for a major photo shoot ... for starters.

Oh lord, another one!

Here's the good principal's quote from the High School's website. I think it explains a lot:

----------------------------------

"We believe that the formative years are a critically important time for young people to ...to discover and appreciate their own talents... to discover that each one of us was created by God for a unique purpose. At Bethlehem High School, we provide opportunities for this revelation, not only through traditional classroom experiences... Bethlehem High School truly is a place where young people can discover their full potential.

Thanks,
Dr. Paul A. Schum, Principal
----------------------------------

SEE! He was just role-modeling what it's like to discover one's talents and explore one's true potential!

Shoot. I feel kinda bad for the guy being made a fool of. It's gratifying to do the same to people who legislate and rally against us, but there's no indication he's one of them. Anyway, I'd do him for sure if he was wearing leather (but without the girly stuff).

@29
"What makes it wrong is being actively engaged in anti-gay politics, not just passively part of an organization that is anti-gay like the Catholics."

Baloney. If not fucking up gay kids is a priority for you, find another job.

The Catholic church's teaching to gay kids that being gay is "intrinsically disordered" is very anti-gay and damaging to gay people when they are most vulnerable, and indoctrinates straight kids with homophobia too.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, many religions, including Christianity and the Catholic church in particular, have not exactly had the most sex-positive teaching traditions. There was a poll recently saying that many younger people are turned off by much of today's Christianity's crazy anti-gay bigotry.

The Catholic dioceses in Iowa just called for an anti-gay marriage state constitutional amendment.

eh, didn't some italian magazine do a story on catholic policy verses what the priests actually say? this guy isn't even a priest, but we really have no clue what his personal beliefs are, and how he may help or hinder others.

Any costumery taking place on 10/30 I'm going to attribute to Halloween. And if it's in an area associated with "drugs and prostitution" it's probably the entertainment district what has all the bars in it. He could have been taking a leak.

It's no less embarassing--but still defensible.

Uh... I did not turn tricks in drag. Please.

Not that I have anything against drag queens that, for a little extra spending money, allowed the panty chasers to blow 'em in bathrooms at the Brass Connection.

But I'm waaaaaaay to sexually repressed, thank God, for that kind of action. Actually, I wouldn't say repressed, since it's not like I wanted to and couldn't. I just didn't want to.

I forget where I read this, but the insistence on an unmarried clergy means something like 1/3 of American priests are gay. Further, I never remember hearing any anti-gay sermons when I was a kid. And the octogenarian gays I know who are about to celebrate their 60th anniversary have never missed Sunday Mass.
