Go strikers. My TV is off until the strike is over.

Is there any way we can give raises, gigantic raises to the writers while force networks to keep good shows on the air (think: Firefly, Sports Night, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Futurama, Arrested Development...)? Like, I would have sent a personal check to keep some of those on air.

Interesting that this could drag into the election next year. Interesting how Bill Maher, The Daily Show and Colbert Report are off the air....

I can't seem to find info on line as to why writers are striking, other than that they feel they should be paid for online sales. But why? Are they paid every time a show runs on tv so they feel this should translate to other revenue streams as well?

Apparently, late night talk shows will be the first ones affected. Not sure how the jokes could get any worse.

Thanks! Very helpful info. I'm not surprised, being that Hollyweird is what it is, but I hope this works so they dont have to live "paycheck to paycheck".

If I write a book, I get paid a percentage of all book sales, hard cover, paperback, foreign language editions, and so on. I also get a percentage of any movie or TV adaptations, and other product sales derived therefrom.

If I write a TV show script, why shouldn't I get paid for all of its usages, including online? Duh.

I support the writers. They make a fraction of what on-screen talent makes, but they make a helluva lot more than most of us do. Still, if their creation is a success, then they should have their fair share of the money pouring in (and pour in it does - by the lawn and leaf bag full).

If only the rest of us had that kind of solidarity in our workplace. It'd be a different country than it is now.

tv sucks anyway. except for showtime, as showtime has great shows. luckily, showtime films their shows months in advance, so this strike won't affect me.

How about if we increase the pressure by starting a movement to get people to cancel their cable/satellite service until the strike is settled?
