posted by on November 6 at 13:42 PM

At Harrison St and Fairview Ave N today:

(Crappy video quality courtesy of my cell phone.)

I think I’m falling for the SLUT.

awwwww.

Welcome to Mass Transit that looks exactly like the MUNI in SF (except that the SLUT is bright lipstick red, which is adorable)

Whoa! Fairview Ave & Harrison St?! That thing does get around! What's it doing all the way still downtown?!

Well, they take the U-Pass.

The SLUT is your cellphone shot is red, but I saw a big purple SLUT at the foot of Lake Union last week.

Inquiring minds want to know: Is the purple SLUT gay?

And here I thought we already had a cutesy little caterpillar shaped thing that nobody ever uses.

Yes, Lake, but now we finally have one that isn't grade-separated!

Oh man. I just looked at the route map for the first time. That thing is ridiculously short! I work in South Lake Union and it would barely even be worth it for me to take it downtown. That's like a ten-minute walk from Westlake and Denny.

As with so many things, I bemoan why it can't be cute AND practical.

It's a real city! With transit and stuff. Am I high?

Unless I'm in a rush, or if the weather is horrid, I don't see the need to hop on a bus even if I'm going from Pike Place Market to Broadway. Walking rules.

Awww. So cute!

And so very, very useless.

I hope that the SLUT does Lynne and Louisa some day.

Yeah, the streets.

Ooh! Olympic Peninsula SLUT, to go through Sappho and Beaver right after one another.

Yes, there are at least three colors of street cars which I've seen at their turn-around depot on Fairview and Harrison.

Too bad the slut works the curb lane on Westlake Ave & Westlake Ave N. I love riding my bike in the left lane and being honked at.

I like it. I'm gonna buy my godson a cotton candy and take him on it.

It's the anchor, kids. The anchor! Nah, wait. It's the chain. The Whole Foods is the anchor. Give SLU 5 more years of redevelopment. Shit, YOU might even live there by then.

I'm with Poe @ 9. Hell, I walk from 19th and Republican to downtown all the time, and I usually beat the 43 and the 10.

The Hooters Commuter tracks are craptacular for bike wheels. And I can't wait til some asshole parks their Escalade too close to the curbside tracks on Westlake, grinding the entire 1.3 mile network to a screeching halt.

I've seen red, orange and purple. I think the orange might be Scots-Irish.

@15. I love the tracks on Fairview in front of the Hutch for the same reason.
My knees say 'no' but my ears say 'yes!' The little toot horn is adorable!

With the monorail, the bus tunnel, the waterfront streetcar, and now SLUT, do we have a complete set of trivially short, non-useful transit options? If we throw in the gondola that used to run in Seattle Center (and is now at the Puyallup Fair), do we have enough of these to qualify for a free wooden escalator or something?

Fnarf, almost. We need a Westlake Ave./Eastlake Ave. Lake Ferry (The WELF).

No, we're still missing the Bubbleator.

Technology from the 1900 being used in 2007, how charming. Too bad it's not above grade and free of traffic jams. Oh well.

What, you don't like commuter rail or light rail, @23?

Posted by Will in Seattle | November 6, 2007 4:46 PM
25

"Useless?" Come on, it's very good at making life hell for cyclists (motor- and non-) trying to use those streets.

The Bubbleator is still in service at the Center House - only now it just looks like a plain old elevator (in a cosmic purple elevator housing).

Fnarf at 20:
note that all are coincidentally about 1.3 miles long: SLUT, George Benson Waterfront streetcar, Alweg, and the DSTT. At least the transit tunnel could be very useful.

The Stranger should start a pool for the first reported pedestrian or moving vehicle (car, bike, motorcycle, truck, oncoming SLUT)collides with a SLUT. Date Time and size of resultant lawsuit against Metro and the City are the required metrics of an entry in the pool. Winner receives a one day pass to Disneyland (Anaheim), and a one year subscription to Seattle Magazine.

Cute, and a delightful move in the right direction, but us down here in Tacoma still have you beat by YEARS with our light rail.

It's still just one little route, but at least it takes you to useful places. (Har har, "I'd rather walk anyplace in Seattle than take light rail to anywhere in Tacoma", I've heard it all before).

Yours is cuter, though.
