The Morning News

posted by on November 26 at 7:28 AM

Spent Lott: Race-baiting GOP Senator leaves Senate to cash in as a lobbyist.

The “R” Word: Recession looms, says Bill Clinton’s former U.S. Treasury Secretary.

American Consumers: Spending like there’s no tomorrow… which might just be the case.

Another Day, Another Food Recall: This time it’s beef—again.

Not Your Father’s Safe Sex Campaign: It’s your grandfather’s, actually.

Bad Boy George: Tragic pop star ordered to stand trial for “bondage kidnap” of male escort and model.

China Stiffs Boeing: Lead-lovin’ commies order 160 new planes from Airbus.

Amanda Knox: More details, more suspects.

Let It Snow: It’s time for La Nina to put up or shut up.

Strike Drags On: Broadway remains dark but, hey, we’ve always got YouTube. It’s impossible to resist this Cabaret/Showboat mashup of Showboat’s “Life Upon the Wicked Stage.”

The video clip sure beats being dragged by a pickup.

The "quitting to become lobbyist" spin might just be a distraction from what's coming. here's to hoping.

*Niggers All Work on de Mississippi* meets Dreamgirls would be a bit edgier. Just imagine though what Fosse could have made of the Secret Garden. JCM would have been out as Hedwig years ahead of himself. (Though it's already wierd enough watching clips hearing the boy singing with Hedwig's voice.)

Correction: Lott simply paid accolades to Strom Thermond, but apologized and lost his majority leader status. Former KKK member Robert Bryd did a not more race baiting. Both of these men regret their past. So let’s put that phrase “race baiting” to bed for both these guys.

Dan, you didn't mention the great news at what a fabulous job Seattle's bike cops (Seattle invented bike cops) are doing at protecting us from potheads in parked cars. I feel so much safer now.

@2:

That's the OTHER entertainment strike. The one Dan is referring to is the Broadway stagehands' strike against the League of American Theatres And Producers.

And hey, at least "Xanadu", "Grinch" and "Young Frankenstein" are still running...

You are a Republican, if you believe..............

1. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals, and Hillary Clinton.

2. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's Daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

3. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

4. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

5. A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational drug corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

6. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

8. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

9. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMO's and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

10. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

11. A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

12. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

13. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

14. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

15. Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born or who might be born (in perpetuity).

16. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of national interest, but what Bush did in the '80's is irrelevant.

17. Support for hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

Biscotti said Guede had left Kercher's room to go to the bathroom when the killer slipped in and knifed the girl. He said Guede returned to the room and held Kercher in his arms, but then fled.

Oh my God. What an idiot. Is there a single jury on this planet that would believe this nonsense?

Said, "those bible thumpin townspeople spent millions of dollars and what did they get, they won, i thunk, big deal. Just teach the ID stuff in some other discipline - philosophy, history, P.E. whatever."

Clever/Stupid is as Stupid/Clever does.

You may be entirely correct in your assessment of our consumerism leading to no tomorrow. Despite all of the recalls of lead tainted toys folks are still flocking like sheep to buy more cheap crap for their kids. Little is being done to make the changes necessary to lessen the impacts of climate change. When I walk outside my front door I am greeted by the sound of streams of water dripping off of rooftops all around as snow melts. Rain has been pouring down this past week. I picked a bouqet of live flowers from my garden a few days ago. I live in Alaska. It is supposed to be much colder here but it is eerily like springtime outside.
