Fred Astaire got the rap on being Hollywood's dance perfectionist, but Gene Kelly was right up there with him. Ms. Miller has said that very often at the end of the shooting day her shoes would be filled with blood.

I forgot to say that I love Korean food and make it all the time. (Thank you, Manna Korean Market in Ann Arbor!) When I visited Seoul I was totally jazzed to have traditional breakfasts. While that's not going away, it's sad to see folks choking down food they don't even like. It makes me want to run to the kimchi jar in my fridge right now!

Forget the tom-toms--check out those legs. I'll take Kelly over Astaire any day--I think he added a lot more freewheeling style to his perfection. And Ann Miller truly was a dancing goddess--check her out in the amazing Kiss Me Kate (which also features a rare dancing performance by choreographer Bob Fosse--it launched his career!)

Oh and by the way - the best, prettiest, most wistful song from "On The Town" - "Some Other Time" - was cut from the movie production because the producers thought it was too depressing.

This is the most embarrassing clip from the movie, but despite its problems it still sparkles. Kelly vs. Astaire, do I really have to choose? That one comes down to a single contested ballot in Florida. I'm going to go with Astaire, for the gracefulness, over Kelly's power -- but Kelly made better movies. And Jules Munshin was great, too. They don't make 'em like this anymore. I don't want to live in the 50s, but their movies were 1,000 times better than ours.

How about Clint Eastwood in a flowered shirt and wide-wale cords singing "I Talk To the Trees" in "Paint Your Wagon"? I guess you'll want one of the big dance numbers, though. Art forms are always most interesting when they start to collapse.
