Dan! I'm shocked, "something that embraces the space’s awkward and sleazy feel" is fine but it don't pay the rent. And besides we already have an Eagle.

or like a gay version of its next-door neighbor, the Comet.

The Eagle is very, very different than the Pony. I think this is an awesome idea.

Split it in half. The Bus Stop could take one part and Pony could take the other part.

I don't live on Capitol Hill, but I know most of you are sick of having to go across town to Queen Anne or Wallingford if you need to squeeze off a few practice rounds. Your neighborhood is crying out for a shooting range and between us, you guys really could work on your aim, you know? Plus, Q Safety Patrol ain't coming back, so think ahead, people.

What should the new shooting range in the old Sugar space be called?

Sugar.

Wow - I was just thinking what fresh hell (str8 hell, no less) would grow in it's place, but Pony would more than make up for the loss of the Pine block. I'm sure if Markus rallied - a few of us single fags would be willing to invest our 401k's into these new digs.

I think it's too big and awkward for any of the Pine bars that are closing, but if they go for it, I'll be there. Well, not for Manray.

Back in the late 80's, that space was called the Seattle Boxing Club or something. It might very well have been a boxing club, but I think that name has erotic possibilities.

But the current space needs divided back into two spaces. It was cool when it was The Easy, but the Spintron layout sucked ass (if you will pardon my french)

LOL at the Eagle comments - Here is some the back story on the Sugar space. The guys (Jimmy & Lance) who opened up the Eagle (fna the J&L Saloon) got the lease on the Seattle Boxing Club in 1983/84. For many years, events and parties that were too large for the J&L (commonly known as Judy's Lounge) were held there as well as some dungeon parties. iN 1989 Jimmy opened up The Balcony Bar which was modeled after Chaps Bar in SF. The IRS seized the Eagle and Balcony for back taxes (the day Jimmy died). Kenny paid the back taxes and sold off the Balcony. It reopened as the short lived Ramrod. Then the girls had the bar as the Easy for the next five years. After that, it was one club after another. FX - the bar before Sugar also had gunshot problems. The building has been sold twice in the last two decades. The upper floors of the building are tagged as unsafe to use.

A sleazy feeling bar space can be a good thing if it is done safely. I believe Marcus is quite capable of pulling it off and making it work. Wondering what George is asking for Sugar...

Tiffany's idea fucking wins.

Pony's been a surprising success and I can't imagine the regulars of the displaced block of bars would mind having any of those places reprise their existence in Sugar's space.

The space is waaaaay too big to be another Bus Stop. Pony could make it work, and is an establishment I'd like to see continue. We don't really need another Manray. It looked like an iPod threw up in there.

Mr. Poe's excited cause now he can spread warts and herpes in the shitter with the rest of the bug chasing crowd.

Please, what we don't need is for Pony to keep on living. It's like Manray, except the clones now have ironic facial hair, and really are just as ugly...
Beat that horse down with the stick and then bury the sonofabitch...

re: #14...The Easy. I totally forgot about that place! Before I moved here I was visiting with a friend and we stopped there for dinner. I'm know flashing back to the interior & balcony. I haven't been in the space since.

the building that sugar was in should go, as well. it will never succeed. there is just something about that space....

Posted by implode | November 21, 2007 8:45 AM

Ah yes, the Easy.... and that was when that stretch of bars was referred to as, the Queasy, the Bile Rose and the Vomit.

I think Manray is much more deserving of the space than Pony... but I'd love to see any gay bar succeed there. With Timberline, pony, thumpers, blu, and manray gone I really think there's enough demand to support one (assuming they don't fuck it up too badly ala Sugar)

I'd really like to see a Showbiz Pizza there.. or a Pizza n' Pipes. That yuppie pizza joint across the street sucks. Bring back some arcades, yo.

The mayor would like to see condos built there so he can get another kickback from a developer.

pony rocks...manspray blows...

i love the fact that pony is a bar that is very mixed...tons of straight boys go there and have a good time and don't think anything of it...

does the world really need another badly lighted stand and pose bar full of twinksberries drinking overpriced cocktails?

they can go to Purr and do that.

pony needs to survive just for their posters alone...great graphics.

Ecce was around for a good month, mainly on Savage's posts, and then faded to only showing up on Savage posts involving Pony. Now he's back, after all this time, on another Pony post, using the classics (herpes, bug chasing, pony needs to be burned to the ground, gays bad name blablabla).

This is fishy.

Believe me, I want nothing more than Pony to be granted immortality, but that is SELFISH. Pony's success and virtue was in its ephemeral nature.

And then I'm afraid that comment @ 6 is dead on . . . we have a shooting range and to wish that upon all those folks that have already gotten gay bashed on their way home from Pony in the past 6 months . . . let's just say that Sugar's virtue was not in it's ephemeral nature.

And is never intended to be such:
Dan . . . recall how you had votes on naming this gay bar and counted down the days for the opening of Sugar and then basically live slogged about its opening weeks. Now, you want Pony to fly over a few blocks and turn into a big huge mythical immortal Pegasus. That's selfish, but I too want it so bad that I'll continue to hope for at least an eternal unicorn.

first of all, if we do recall all bizz in that building (even beloved Mr. Paddywhacks) there has been a history of violence that I for one am fearful of exposing my fair Pony to. One day we WILL ride again, but man, we're a rad bar but not a heinous night club. That space is a far strech for a future Pony.

In the mean time, come and pay your last respect, we are not closed until the 28th.
