Oh that is pretty funny... But who is this Zwickel?

Was that a pun, or just a failure to spell?

So Horizon Air connects Seattle to Portland with airplane flights, and The Stranger connects Seattle to Portland with an irreconcilable rivalry fed on envy and petty competition over meaningless prizes.

Trademark, not copyright. You can't copyright a short phrase like a name. You can trademark it.

As if with the "arrive 90 minutes before departure" and retarded airport security and delayed departures and single-point boarding/exiting you'd be able to make it faster by flying.

You probably should copyright "Slog" as the name of a blog if you haven't. But I don't think intellectual property rights would be violated if both you and Horizon used the word (in these quite different ways), though a lawyer can say for sure.

The weirdest thing about Slog is its lack of of discussion concerning Norman Finkelstein. I just got back from the east coast and the few Jews I talked with were hyped about the subject - in Seattle it might be something that Jewish circles are only content to talk about amongst themselves. At Princeton two weeks ago Finkelstein got a huge standing ovation! This Radio Islam page has some classic quotes from the renegade scholar.

As I said, the young people I talked with were really interested and kind of excited about him. They're much more inclined to side with him in the ongoing feud he's been having with Alan Dershowitz (Dershowitz pretty much single handedly arranged Finkelstein's denial of tenure this fall at DePaul). Maybe the warm reception his book, ‘The Holocaust Industry. Reflections on the Exploitation of Jewish Suffering’, has been getting from White Nationalists is causing Slog to be hush hush. I might have missed some posts, but searching the archives, I found nothing. If Seattle wants to be a big time city, news like this should broadcasted out loud, especially from the likes of The Stranger. I'll lend a hand here on the Slog when it looks necessary.

"First Use" can count a lot for trademark protection even if not federally registered. Also if two uses could cause confusion in a reasonable person. I doubt anyone is going to walk up to the billboard looking for an online message board.

@6: Actually, Alaska/Horizon somehow got a special, separate security line for flights to Portland and Spokane; you can arrive about 15 minutes before your flight (assuming you did web check-in) and be just fine.

(I can't imagine who actually flies to Portland; the one time I did, I was going somewhere much further away, and it turned out to be cheaper to fly there via PDX. The security thing was an added bonus.)

I hate to say it, but the web site is a pretty cute & clever sendup of the Ken Burns movies.

The real question is is Seattle large enough to warrant roving dioramas and truck billboards a la Vegas and New York? I think not.

copyright/trademark/first use: slog is already a word well before the stranger, it means a bit of a tough go
