onSamuel Stephens, one of the founders of Ezell’s Famous Chicken and an integral supporter of the Seattle hiphop scene, has passed away at age 48.
Here’s the memorial page from Ezell’s website, and here’s a write-up from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

As a regular reader of the print obituaries (trust me, it's fun, although I'd change the name of the page to "The Do Not Call List") I thought it was strange to see a listing headed by an Ezell's logo. Could this be a new revenue source for the paper? As expensive as obits are (over $100/inch), I wouldn't care if my death notice was brought to you by the fine folks at Papa John's Pizza. Look for it next week.
Remind me NOT to eat the chicken there. Heart attack anyone?
Here come the sanctimonious vegan ho-bags. It doesn't say anywhere what he died of; if it was a heart attack it would have. Ezell's is a great institution, and Stevens was a good man.
Chicken pox?
mmmmmm.....chicken.
Chicken is so fucking good. Oh my fucking God.
...that is all.
Agreed. I want chicken NOW.
I'm not allowed to eat at Ezell's. The one near me has a sign that says they only want customers who "love and honor god".
Yes, but they don't specify WHICH god...I choose to interprete it as the Great Chicken Liver God...
@8, Good call. I would go if they had a sign saying everyone is welcome.
40 fucking 8? that is NOT cool.
salute to Ezells, it is fucking delicious.
The over/under on the number of original references in this entry to the health hazards of eating fried chicken is officially set at 4.5.
One time a took a bite of Ezell's and the juices dripped on my shirt. When the grease quickly dried it was so hard to touch that it scared the crap out of me. Probably no different than any other fried food but this incident happened to freak me out.
I'm in pretty tight with the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but the chicken sounds good, too. And the sweet potato pie.
my uncle did not die of any heart attack. and our fried chicken isn't the cause of his death u insensitive asses... he had an allergic reaction. have some kind of respect. sam stephens was perfectly healthy.
