Report from Burgess Party on Queen Anne

posted by on November 6 at 20:33 PM

ECB here, Slogging from what has suddenly become the Tim Burgess victory party. When the latest numbers came up showing Burgess with 61 percent to Della’s 38.6 percent, the previously staid crowd at Bricco Wine Bar on Upper Queen Anne exploded. “Obviously, there must be something wrong,” Burgess joked, adding, “I hope we don’t get slammed for having this party in such a chichi wine bar.”

Standing at the door of the crowded bar, Burgess greeted newcomers with the news. Most looked shocked. “You’ll have to start shopping for clothes for all those official functions!” someone told Burgess’s wife Joleen. “Is it too early to say congratulations?” another said. Burgess had been attacked in recent days by Della for work his firm did in the ’90s on behalf of controversial right-wing group Concerned Women for America. The mailers and ads, which attempted to label Democrat Burgess as a Republican, may have backfired.

“Let’s go home!” a friend just told Burgess. “No way—I can drink now!” Burgess replied. The food spread at the bar is impressive, to say the least—it includes mini lamb burgers on brioche, all kinds of tapenades, and fancy-looking cheeses. Can’t wait to hear what the scene at Della’s party is like.

Officially, this is the death of gay rights in Seattle. I feel like I have been kicked in the stomach. It is like watching David Duke win in Seattle.

Save the drama for improv. class, Touring. Even IF Burgess wins, and IF he decides to go back on his word and become an anti-gay zealot on the council, he is just one vote (and he will be gone in four years). Give me an effin' break. Della is an idiot and had to go...

Would you really be better off if Della won? I'm not really seeing the big strides that gay rights made under him, nor the erosion of gay rights under Burgess.

I feel sorely deflated, Burgess is glossy scum, winning or not

Seattle has soooooo changed in ten years

Watch Rossi do very well here next year

All of South Seattle is just forgotten

Mini-lamb burgers on brioche? I may be starting to regret my vote.

Republicans win for the first time in a while. With any luck he will deny the Holocaust happened or provide special city services for married women who decide to stay at home. IMHO the guys a complete nut job and Tina has a fucking ax to grind because of what Della did to Heidi Wills. I am certainly not excited about Della but as least he is for real and we know his decades of politics. Burgess is personally responsible for the suicides of hundreds, if not thousands, of bullied youth (CWfA opposed anti-bullying programs because they explicitly mention sexual minority youth) a group that called for "The elimination of homosexuality from society."
@6 Your logic makes me want to puke. Like I said David Duke would not be that bad either, right? As long as you get your fucking bike lanes let's throw the gays under the bus.

OK, Touring, tell you what. If, between now and election day 2011, the city council passes any measure that limits or rolls back any existing GLBT rights legislation on the city's books as of right now, I'll pay you $50. If they don't, you must pay me $50.

Deal?

Comparing this guy to David Duke is fucking disgusting, dude. Your idiotic brand of politics makes *me* want to puke... it seems like you're keen on cutting off your nose to spite your face, and that kind of attitude gets nothing done.

@13 Why? Because David Duke has not claimed he instantly has “changed” because he is running in a liberal city? This shit happened like a couple of years ago and the reason I use harsh analogies to racism is because you CHOOSE not to care about how abhorrently evil CWfA is. Can someone change from being a hatemonger? Sure but you shouldn’t be able to win office in this city, yet he did. Were some of those “Limousine Democrats” on the City Council and former Mayor probably more conservative than they represented themselves? Probably. But Burgess clearly crossed the line here in so many ways. And mark my words this will be the first of many sell-outs by Seattle and when they start electing people that hate something about YOU or YOUR life I will laugh my head off. Remember it starts with the gays and the immigrants and eventually they will be coming after you...
