Film Re: Letter to the Editor from a Self-Appointed Representative of “the Literary Field” Regarding Annie Wagner’s Review of Elizabeth: The Golden Age

onIn my defense, if defense is necessary:
Dear Charles W.,Vulgarity was appropriate because the film is completely vulgar. Have you seen it?
Furthermore, the word “cunt” is terribly Elizabethan. Shakespeare adored it.
And lastly, the gowns in Elizabeth: The Golden Age are the only reason the film will be remembered, if it is remembered at all. I predict it will win an Oscar in costume design.
I remain, sir,
yr mst obd &c,
Annie Wagner

I will say this, the first movie was good (but historically out of order in a pretty blatant way). As a matter of fact so out of actual chronological order of her reign that a second movie was bound to be disasterous.
A better film version of Elizabeth is the one HBO did a few years ago with Helen Miriam(?). True, she is not as good of an actress as Cate Blanchet but historically it's much more accurate.
Yes, the Helen Mirren HBO film was better on several levels but neither film accurately depicts Elizabeth's pock marked, acne ridden, make-up caked visage.
Re Shakespeare's alleged adoration of the word "cunt": methinks my Willy would have cherished "nigger", too...
OK? chow ^..^
regarding the chances that "Golden Age" will get an Oscar or at least a nomination for the costumes: DUH!
The Rules for the costume Oscar are:
Period beats Modern.
The older, the better.
Edwardian rules...
But, Victorian beats Edwardian...
and Elizabethan trumps all...
oh, and I hear Edith gives great Head..
Cate Blanchett is fetal tissue compared to Helen Mirren!
