That first quotation is partly accurate. Most African Americans don't support "free" market theories or limited government. What's up for debate is whether those policies are sensible.

When I first saw the Ron Paul banners popping up in unlikely places, I tried to talk sense to some of his boosters. No luck. He seems to have attracted a whole constituency of paranoid third-party geeks who like him because of how little they know about him. You can't burden them with information any more than you can reach the committed Nader or Larouche supporters. Like those groups, the Ron Paulies will soon fade into obscurity.

Wow, I'd like to hear what the Ron Paul supporters say about this.... Personally I would never even consider voting for Ron Paul for many reasons, and I believe these statements indicate he's a racist. However, I also think some of his statements are objectively true. I've been mugged or attacked several times in Seattle and other cities, all by black males. If it is true that black males commit crimes out of proportions to their numbers, then it seems that sensitive people who are not racists realize that there are reasons for this, but it doesn't make the statistics false, and people shouldn't be afraid to point this out in a sensitive way.

Andrew Sullivan has the response from the Paul supporters on this on his blog. Sounds far more sensible than the smears would like to believe. I love that Paul is causing so much consternation among the republicans and now apparantly the dems too. I'm not a supporter, but I love that he has them all running scared. If the right wing noise machine is any indication they are almost as afraid of him as they are Obama.

thats great! elect him and follow him as your leader but don't expect any minorities to do ANYTHING at all for this country. If you want a white world...fine....then you whites do all of the work, maintain your country's infrastructure, police yourselves, and everything else. No, the minorities won't leave. we will just sit here and make you do all of the work. This is what a WHITE world really means. you people can't have it both ways, white supremacy AND minority hard work. You hate us...fuck you, tough shit. It is already this way for me...I mean I have a white garbage man, a white mail deliverer, a white mechanic. the way I see it you people are the ones serving me. Ron Paul is going to be the leader of all of you white slaves who are soon to be the minority in america.

yeah. a white supremecist is just a white slave by day and a supremacist by night. These guys are all low wage service workers who make minimum wage serving minorities by day with a smile on their faces and then behind their backs talk shit. The only supremacy they will ever see is being promoted to head toilet cleaner from urinal maintennace

Posted by k | November 14, 2007 12:44 PM

His views on race don't matter because, lets face it, this country is going to be minority white eventually and whites are simply not going to be needed. If whites want to exclude everybody, who cares. the minority communities will prosper and the whites will live in secluded ghettos. that is how it is now. white supremacists congregate in the poorest areas. So if you want to be a white supremacist in the modern age, fine...thats ok. You can go live in the white ghetto with the rest of your kind

Jebus, i got to start a blog of my own, apparently all you have to do is keep recycling everyone else's stories, even after they've been debunked and proven to be false. Paul never said those things about blacks and they are completely opposite of the philosophy and politics he's advocated for the past 30 years, the guil-by-association stuff is already addressed by Sullivan and Raimundo. Please take some of your own advice and research before you recycle this crap.

Um, okay, I think your facts are bit off. Ron Paul never said those things. They were written by a ghost writer who was fired for making racist statements in Paul's newsletter.

Paul has denounced racism in his writings.

If he were a racist he would be more supportive of policies which defacto punish minorities such as the war on drugs. The fact that he isn't says a lot about the guy.

Instead, his views on race are sort of old fashioned - he prefers to think of Americans as having more in common than we have different.

A lot waco racists support Ron, but they fail to recognize that Ron does not share their extreme views.

White supremacist groups aren't supporting Ron Paul because of a few racist comments. His entire platform is a white supremacist cream dream. He wants to eliminate Medicare/Medicaid, the Department of Education, federal student loans, hate crimes legislation, and all other federalized social protections.

Ron Paul paid for the education and living expenses of his five children during their undergraduate and medical school years. Do you think if Ron Paul were black he would have been able to do this? He wouldn't have even been allowed to go to the college he went to if he were black, and his family would have likely had no money due to the legacy of slavery which ended just 70 years before he was born.

He also said (paraphrasing) "The Civil War didn't need to be fought. The north could have just bought all the slaves and freed them."

Erica shows us where she keeps her heart in her very second line:
"Hey, look! Ron Paul’s true constituency..." Emphasis mine.

And why is is her Paul's "true" constituency? Because Erica wants it to be that way, of course. Or, rather, she just knows that the racists at Stormfront are Paul's peeps. Of course, anyone attempting to point out the prevalence of jew-hating African-Americans in Cynthia McKinney's clique is a racist and should be ignored, but defining an entire politician's movement by the fringe is totally legit. If you're liberal. Or, you know, Erica.

It would only be fair to note that he specifically denies actually saying these things himself, or sharing these views. Even if his claim to it is a little questionable. And even if he clearly gives a big ol' stiffy to people who really do think those things.

Anyways, it doesn't matter. Paul's a loon, his supporters are loonier, he will crash and burn, and in the best-case scenario he runs third-party and steals the nutty black-helicopter constituency from the GOP. He truly is the new Perot.

The whole Ron Paul thing is a little baffling to me. I mean, I get that he seems to be a man of consistent character, who may be different from the typical pandering politician. And that he was/is against the Iraq war and the "war on drugs".

But... his extreme libertarianism leads to some views on policy that don't seem like they would be appealing to people in Seattle. The free market should take care of the environment? Pro-life? Anti gun-control? etc., etc.

Also, what is it about him that is attractive to the crazies? In my parents town of 10,000 in central Illinois there is this guy that stands by the interstate every day holding a Ron Paul sign. He is, well, a total nutjob. Seems like he and Sandra J. could be buddies.

Why yes there is something more anti-American than censorship (Ron Paul is against anti-Constitutional behavior of any kind, including censorship -- we simply advocate a boycott of THE STRANGER).

What could it worse? How about using a public forum to spread disinformation about a presidential candidate in an effort to stop people from voting for him? That's not only anti-American, that's flat out COMMUNIST. Taken directly from the Communist Manifesto.

Your lack of ethics and your character are showing for all the world to see on this blog. I hope your readers are taking notes. You even seem to want to skew my posts, as well. Tell me, who the hell do you advocate to run this country? I'm sure you've picked a real winner! LOL!!!!

"The addition of two top-ten markets -- and two of the industry's most respected alternative news products -- offers us a pivotal gateway of connectivity with the young adult audience." @62: hipsterlite

Your personal freedom depends on journalists being objective and fair. If the press strays too far from their job, democracy fails. You seem to be okay with the failure of democracy. You unwittingly support the end of your own freedom. Corruption in politics must be kept in check or there will be no more politics... there will only be a dictatorship.

for #65:
failure of democracy?
Please get real, the idea you and other Paul supporters have of democracy, is what's skewed. Objective and fair, in this society? yeah right. Objectivity is bought and sold on the airwaves, in the name of "free speech". Money like religion, poisons everything.

But the libertarian mantra which uses facile notions like "freedom" is a disguise to justify greed, inequality, and dominataion over resources and people.

I also don't depend on the press for my freedom, a free press, at times isn't always objective. What do you think scares a dictator most? I'd posit it is a press that is free to be ideologically opposite of the establishment.

Freedom and Democracy are the goal, not the hammer to be used against those with less means.

Paul's past racial statements are troubling, however all the other GOP candidates
current policy proposals (e.g. nuke Iran, expand Guantanemo) are terrifying. Also, slamming a candidate or policy by listing his/its weirdest supporters is lame, examples: 1) we can't do XXX because that's what Al-Queda wants! 2) lesbian man-haters support Hillary! 3) the Pope favors JFK! etc. etc. Who cares what insane people want? Are you really so insecure of your own rationalism that you can't have any position in common with a loon? All these racial accusations are just a pathetic attempt to slur a good man. they have all been debunked elsewhere.

This country is on the brink of disaster and this is a chance to actually get an honest man in the white house.

Remember, he is constitutional, so he will restore the checks and balances to the government and give it back to the people.

There will always be plenty of opposition to some of his more extreme liberterian leanings to keep the course of the country moderate.

Otherwise, with the other choices it's business as usual and our country becomes a runaway truck going downhill fast.

in the spirit of faux news- "Some people" seem to want the destruction of this once-great country, starting with our civil rights and monetary system.

There's barely a cogent argument anywhere in this post and these comments. That's right. Join the MSM and repeat all the crap they're feeding to you. Or, why don't you listen to what Ron Paul has to say for 10 minutes, and then come up with a
