But on the other, this was supposed to be King County's last vote-in-person election - at least in theory (though KC elections could well bungle the change enough that we'll get another chance or two to vote in person)

It was pretty artificial and gross, with everybody standing there in funny hats for an uncomfortably long time while the press cycled through, taking pictures. The party itself was great--who doesn't love free beer and pizza?--but I stand by the picture-taking being artificial and gross. And I know that lots of winning political parties do things like that, but it's still tacky.
