Slog - Comments on Oh, That Melba.

"Spam". Of course it's delicious, everyone knows that, but it’s also just infuriating in the form of an email. And sometimes thought provoking, too. Especially and specifically when the randomly generated blabber that typically appears in the RE: portion of any given spam email reads like the one I just got. The email in question was secretly hawking VIAGRA, the bastard thing (as if), but in the Subject line it read thusly: "Such a conspicuous fuckstick Melba." Wow. It just makes you think. You know?...

my favorite was:

an email just recieved

so i just got this in my email:

I am simple man who loves life as it is. Wish it were different, but it is not. I have a passion for pictures and stories. Sometimes, I thin that I am becoming older, like in eging.
I want a genuine person full of life and not afraid to be wrong. A guy who knows that they are hot but knows how to make everyone else around them feel just as hot. He should be able to be goofy and know how to dance or will learn.
tv, movies, internet, chatting, travel, etc.

@6- I asked my IT guy that question. He didnt know either-except to postulate that well disguised hyperlinks can be buried in the body and a random, accidental mouse click can send you to the seedy, malware underworld of whatever those links contain, or a clueless elderly person might want to investigate further and d.l. some trojan ap. Even that 1 person in a mill is enough to get those bastards excited about their capture.

It's hash-busting and filter-busting. At the simplest level, "viagra" gets caught and you never see the spam, while "v1@GGra" gets through. It's a lot more complicated than that, but that's the gist.

Realize also that spamming is a business service, and the people who make the big money are not the losers who are supposedly selling the junk, but the business service providers. You get suckered into thinking you can make.money.fast by paying for a business that relies on spam (pills, travel, whatever), and your billion spam go out. The guy running the spam network makes far more money than you do, if you make anything (unlikely, but the spammer doesn't know or care).
