Slog - Comments on Names Can Be Deceiving

Did you know there's a new late night food spot on the Hill? It's called Taco Gringos (their gringo-ness made obvious by their refusal to follow proper Spanish pluralization rules). They make tacos that are not filled with the delicious meat of white people: instead, they are filled with the delicious meat of pink pigs, brown and white cows, and whatever color of fake animal TVP comes from. They are $2 each, and unlike most tacos found on Capitol Hill, they are actually delicious. It's a surprising development. I don't know the address and I can't find it online--It's where...

Tacos are fine, but we need burritos, good ones. Back in SF, o man, I would walk to the taco window and things were good. I also used to walk to BART to get to school or work, but that's a different story.

@13 - that's easily explained. People from California (myself included) understand and lament Seattle's lack of good mexican food, so they see no reason for the existance of TDM or TT - as for Taco Bell, I assume it's just a throwback to the one "Mexican" chain that exists down there that one can find up here. Maybe it reminds them of the food they ate while in high school? Hard to say on that part.

@7, exactly! What type of Gringos run this place (or eat there)? Taco Gringos of course. Sort of like a Burger King or Dairy Queen... it's the adjective use of "Taco".

@6 Chill the fuck out. I live in Austin, and, even as a second-language learner of Spanish, I could drive through my neighborhood right now and find countless grammatically incorrect signs in Spanish, posted by Spanish speakers, from Mexico. Are they ignorant of themselves? Or maybe they just made a mistake... the way people are prone to do... without any whisper of ethnocentrism or racial bias. For example, I don't think that you're culturally ignorant b/c you have a split infinitive in your post ("to not call"). :)
