Slog - Comments on Know Your Enemy

A pet peeve I've got with the media—high brow, mainstream, and alt media—is its obsession with and ability to get inside the Democratic party and analyze and parse every utterance and cough. There's an obligatory attempt to do this with the Republicans, but it doesn't strike me as earnest or consistent. Or successful. That's why I always appreciate it when Postman files interesting reports like this one about the GOP. Notice, though, that Postman begins his account saying: "I learned this: Many Republicans remain undecided about the race for their party's presidential nominee..." Could you imagine if he was just...

Postman is just learning this? I've been reading about this for a year. Almost everything I've read is about the Repub candidates and what negotiations they are all making with various subsets of their base. Just yesterday I was reading about how Romney's sucking up to evangelicals is alienating Mormons. I have no interest in reading anything about the Dems, and haven't had to much; none of them really have anything to offer besides "not Republican". The terms of actual debates, like the Dem one last night, never have anything at all to do with actual governance if elected, because none of their promises can be kept and none of their ideas will ever even get voted on. Republicans, though -- evil is always more interesting.

Also worth mentioning is that conservatives seem to be much better at sucking it up and rallying behind whoever their nom turns out to be, never mind supporting their guy or gal in office to nearly the bitter end. The left tends to pick apart their own people in a way that the right never seems to, maybe because the left is more deeply skeptical of authority...?

It's because high brow journalists don't want to be associated with those knuckle-dragging Republicans on any level. A) they don't like them and B) they're afraid hanging around Republicans might turn them Republican or at least sympathetic to Republicans. Gross.
