here comes huckabee

If by "interesting" you mean "frightening", then I wholeheartedly agree.

Actually, I was surprised a "movement conservative" hadn't surfaced earlier. I assumed it was going to be Brownback, but I guess he's too Catholic (plus he cares about those pesky Africans in Darfur!)

No fucking way is a pro-choice or a Mormon getting the Republican nod. Better Huckabee than Cheney.

They need someone to lead them into the wilderness for the next 40 years.

Huckabee would be a good choice for that.

yeah, maybe I just don't know enough about him yet, but he doesn't seem:

as much of an asshole as Romney,

as much of a Bush "9/11 changed everything" guy,

as crazy as McCain,

or like a total reactionary like Ron Paul.

He seems like a guy who I could stomach if the dems fuck it up (like they usually do). Anyone care to enlighten me?

@5

The Taibbi profile goes into both why he's probably the most palatable of the Republicans and also why his religious views are probably going to be a little much for most people.

We're talking about the guy who doesn't believe in evolution and is a young earth creationist right?

I'm tired of uneducated and ignorant morons making a run for the white house. When the fuck is a truly educated person going to run?

I watched Huckabee get interviewed by Wolf Blitzer on CNN this past Sunday. The man is an IDIOT! He would not endorse Israel giving up any piece of the West Bank as part of a peace settlement. His reasoning - there is plenty of Arab-controlled land for the Palestinians to settle on, why give them Israeli-controlled land. In other words, "Hey Palestinians, you can have a piece of someone else's country, but you can't have a piece of your own country..."

IDIOT!

Mike in MO@4- Huckabee supports a national sales tax. National. Sales. Tax. Economists say for it to replace income tax, it would have to be 30+%. National. Sales. Tax.

For privatizing Social Security. Against stem cell research. Against universal health care. Anti-choice. For a hetero marriage constitutional amendment.

(All this from http://minnesota.publicradio.org/projects/ongoing/select_a_candidate/poll.php?race_id=13 which said Huckabee was my least appropriate candidate.)

mike@8- the neocon slavish devotion to Israel has become the official Republican position. Didn't you get the memo?

Crap. This is the one GOP candidate who actually has a chance against the Democrats. He has a talent for sounding reasonable while being fucking insane, and his politics have a populist twist that could win blue collar votes that would otherwise be thinking of voting Democratic.
