Slog - Comments on Gov. Gregoire Corrects the Record

"I owe you an apology," Gov. Chris Gregoire called late yesterday afternoon to say. In an earlier interview, Gregoire told me she hadn't endorsed the Democratic candidate for King County Prosecutor, Bill Sherman, because Sherman had never asked for her endorsement. That's not what Sherman's folks had told me, I let her know. But she stood by her story. However, she called yesterday to say she had her story wrong. She had forgotten that Sherman asked, she said. She acknowledged that the story Sherman told me—that he had asked for her endorsement in person at a fund raiser last summer...

She was caught by the media. Also, she never apologized for being so rude as to not even get back to Sherman. Guess she's above that common courtesy.

This also means her reasons for not endorsing were never communicated to Sherman. Maybe she made them up after she was caught?

Sounds better than saying, "Bill, I think only of myself and my own re election. I know I got all the liberal votes in Seattle already. So that's why I don't try to lead my party, won't endorse you, won't take the lead on a pro transit vision for Puget Sound, and didn't lead the no on 960 campaign in a visivble way. I just do the bare minimum to keep you Seattle liberals on my side, while trying to appease the independents and Republicans by not taking stands and sometimes just . obeying the anti tax crowd and Tim Eyman like I did on the property tax lid."

I say the Stranger should say they will endorce Rossi next year.

Again, another Democrat trying hard to lose an election.....

Why did we get stuck with her anyway? I honestly can not remember. The only thing I remember is that she is possibly racist since she was in an all white sorority.

Silly white boys, she is the best Gov. we have had in twenty years.

2007 is way over, move on.

Sherman lost because the vote broke for Satterberg in the last two weeks. Gregoire answering the phone in his office would not have changed that.

And Josh, this is old stale news now.

Comment by Particle Man

Elected officials decide not to endorse in any given race for all kinds of reasons and this is their right.
As voters who may have supported the elected official in question, we often feel that we have some ownership over who they endorse or when they decide to stay out. I think folks should keep these facts in mind.
What is at issue here is that the Governor chose not to endorse in this race. This is to say that the frustration is over her simply staying out of the race. This is ten fold better than endorcing Sherman's opponent when his stratagy was to fool voters into thinking that he was not a party hack. So, if you want to get pissed, then get pissed at Adam Klein who stepped way over the line in this race and helped Satterberg sell his lie to the stupid middle.

Comment by Seattle girl

to #4: The reason that Governor Gregoire and other dem elected's weren't out front on 960 or Roads and Transit is because the campaign polling showed that that didn't help either of these campaign's. In fact having them be the face of these campaigns would have hurt the campaigns. The Governor, Speaker Chopp and Majority Leader Lisa Brown all helped these campaigns behind the scenes and it's totally inaccurate to say it's a lack of leadership that caused these to measures to go down.

That's nothing.

Did you guys hear Rossi is threatening to dump Yamaha when his contract expires after 2008 and join Ducati for the 2009 season? "Because they're Italian" of course -- har! More like, "Hey, Yammy, I want more gold plated diamond encrusted platinum bling on my bike. Or I'm outta here!"

Or maybe Rossi thinks he won't need a contract with any moto factory after 2008? Because he'll be sliding into a new gig in 2009?

How come all the Rossi gossip you get is boring crap and all my Rossi gossip is RED HOT? Why is that?

@12: Gidge, leave Will alone. As a member of Satterberg's Republicanocrat Brigade, you just don't understand partisan politics.

J.R., I don't know what kind of brigade I'd fit into, but blog posts and ballot choices are not one in the same. Plus, don't you think Will can handle himself? I actually don't disagree with him for being mad; I was simply asking a question. I would have liked to have seen a better response from the dems this election, but I was really wondering what Will was hoping to leverage (and that could be anything). It just seemed like there was a blank that needed to be filled in.
