Sweet! I could care less about the Sonics - I never went to games, but I would actually go watch MLS soccer.
at least QWest field will get more use than 8X/year.
but MLS? its gonna look real empty in there.
You will like soccer MUCH better than Basketball.
I don't know how people sit through NBA games. 48 minutes of play that takes 2 1/2 hours? Soccer is 90 minutes of play that takes less than two hours.
I'll be a season ticket holder. Soccer means drinkin and fightin!
The NBA has established a new
business paradigm. It is
targeting cities with small
It's best for the Sonics to
leave Seattle as quickly as
possible but only after the
company has settled up with
what it owes this city.
I still think an NHL franchise would be have the most appeal.
The sounders are pro already!
I think you mean "MLS" team, not pro.
Let's come up with some good anti-Posh chants for when Beckham comes to town. "You're wife's a fucking slag" isn't good enough.
Yes! Soccer rules. Let's tear down Key Arena and build a soccer-only stadium. And let's lose the name Sounders for something more fun, like...
finally a game at qwest i can afford
Excellent news! And about freakin' time, too.
And @4, I would add that, with basketball, frequently (well, unless you're talking the Sonics, that is) 2 hours and twenty nine minutes of that two and a-half hours is pointless, since a typical game is won or lost in that last minute or two of play - which of course gets dragged out for fifteen or twenty minutes of real-time what with all the time-outs and commercial breaks.
At least with football (i.e. soccer) one side can score in the first minute of regulation, and the other 89 minutes still matter; and no wussy time-outs either.
Wait, "Posh Spice Takes it Up the Arse" is the one I was thinking of.
I really hope they don't just migrate the Sounders to MLS. And if they do, I really hope they change the name from the "Sounders" to something more kickass, like "Bloodthirsty Threeheaded Unicorns of Valhalla" or something.
Oh hell yes. I can't wait!! I loved going to Clash games in San Jose, and Fire games in Chicago. Great times.
"Away-away-oh, you're wife's a baggy 'ho!"
isn't good enough?
Sweet. Screw you David Stern. Name? How about the Seattle SLUT?
I love watching men's soccer!!!
Portland deserves it more, though. Have you ever been to a Sounders game at Quest Field where the Timbers Army tries to taunt the locals? There's no recognizable Seattle fan group for them to taunt.
But Poe, don't you love socer players?
It's official: Seattle is soccerer than Portland!
No. What the hell would give you that idea? The first 3 men in my picture scroll should paint the entire picture of the type of men I like to watch.
Awesome! I'm all for this. Especially if some more of the aging superstars come over for a US retirement- I'm all for seeing an ancient Figo make a few passes.
Hmmmmm... a person who doesn't find soccer players droolable... I'm not sure I can wrap my mind around that.
Though, I do agree with your Anderson Cooper, and Tim's kind of attractive too.
This is a golden opportunity. After the first few games go by, the novelty wears off, and the hardcore fans are the only ones going, we'll have a substantial portion of Seattle's pretentious ashamed-not-to-be-European twats all in one place...
Sweet. MLS may be the dumps at the moment, but it's popularity is increasing every year.
Now we just have to convince them not to close the roof unless it's snowing HARD. Nothing like a rain to make soccer fun!
hey, any chance we can get cool team colors and nifty sweaters and scarves? Something bright and cheery that doesn't make blood spots stand out too much ...
@28, Qwest doesn't have a roof. At least not over the field.
I sure hope MLS season doesn't conflict with baseball season. If I have to deal with some retarded Eurotrash soccer fans -- in addition to the usual assortment of retarded baseball fans -- I just might crack.
Soccer (sorry, "football") isn't a real sport anyway -- real sports don't have ties. I can see the first game being fun in a novelty sort of way, but after that? Like watching paint dry.
Can we cut the "real sports have..." crap?
Hockey has ties, Football has ties. It happens, teams still gain points and eventually finish somewhere in the standings. Get over it.
@30 Can we cut the "real sports have..." crap?
Soccer is so boring that I fell asleep just reading the headline.
Oh, right, @30 - cool! Makes for better games.
Anyone know how much season tix will be?
YAYAYAYAYAY! Soccer boys are the best! Almost as good as women's rugby. Can't wait til '09.
Great, soccer. The sport people who don't like sports pretend they like when they have to talk about sports. Yawn.
Soccer: the sport that morons who would rather be jerking off to war movies love to hate.
Agreed w/ @7 that the NHL (provided a new arena is built) would have more appeal around here.
Or if no new arena, an expansion Major indoor lacrosse franchise or Rat City Rollergirls roller derby in the Key would do just fine.
Football has ties -- AFTER TRIPLE OVERTIME. Don't get me wrong -- I love to play soccer -- but seriously? MLS fans are inevitably douchebags who wish they lived in Europe. Still not a real sport.
MLS is a sport that hipsters can embrace without feeling like "sports fans." Basically, it's a sport for people who don't understand the infield fly rule.
If any MLS fans can explain the infield fly or "tuck" rule to me...I'd love to hear it.
I'm a MLS fan.
The infield fly rule is a restriction placed on the basemen that states when a ball is hit in the infield, and there is force out at third base, the batter is counted out. This is to prevent the infielders from "accidentally" dropping the fly to get an easy double or triple play.
I like footie, baseball, hockey and good old gridiron. And Im a hipster douchebag. Imagine that!
Nice try, but really not close on the infield fly rule. (I'm a baseball umpire AND a soccer referee -- love both sports).
