Lessee: carpet covers flat piece of steel to which the "stick" (probably some high-strength re-bar or similar metal rod covered by a wooden shell) is securely anchored at the base. The top of the stick has a weight-bearing armature secured to it, which is concealed beneath floaty-dude's puffy-pants.

He sets up his rig and hoists himself onto the armature when nobody is looking, conceals it beneath his trousers, then proceeds to sit atop it for several hours, all the while placing his hand lightly on the exposed top of the stick for "support".

Voila! Mysterious East-Indian Levitation Trick!
