Science Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise

onDoes she spin clockwise, counter-clockwise, or both?
Clockwise? Your right brain is in charge. Counter-clockwise? Your left.
Explanations are here and here.
With every blink, she switches direction for me. Any wonder why my handwriting is so bad?

DUDE! ZOMG NSFW!!!1
Just kidding. Love you Science!
Yeah, I can look at her and see her move counterW and then I look again and she is moving clockW. Am I a freak?
@3, yeah you are a freak and so am I. I can see it happening both ways
I can only see it clockwise. No matter how hard I try to see it the other way. I want to be a freak too!
did you actually read those articles? because the second one pretty clearly explains why that left brain/right brain explanation is total bs.
I get both, too. It started counter, then I looked away and it was clockwise, then it hiccuped and was back to counter, which it's been stuck on (or my brain has been stuck on, I guess) for a while. Hooray for the crazies!!!
the shadow shows that she is only moving clockwise.
I only see counter. Huh.
I mean clockwise.
ok nevermind, now i see the shadow makes sense going the other way too.
It is DAMN WEIRD when is changes on you while you're looking at it. Brains are funny (and pretty unreliable).
Yeah, I only see the girl moving clockwise.
I've tried for the life of me to get her to change direction, but no matter what, she always spins clockwise... guess I'll never fullfill my dream of becoming an accountant.
I only see her moving counterclockwise.
The shadow, as well.
I only see clockwise. Does this mean I can't be a scientist anymore?
I'm sorry, I was staring at her boobs. What were you saying?
I hope she's moving cockwards.
open the comment box and place it on your screen right at the bottom of her foot (the one closest to the bottom of the pic and focus on the shadow. imagine her going one way and move the box and she does. then do the opposite.
it's all about that shadow.
I see counter clockwise. Very interesting. =)
I'm with gomez and the general. I've seen this before, and once again, no matter how hard I try, I can't imagine her spinning counterclockwise, only clockwise. I'm quite dissapointed with my inability to see it both ways.
I only see clockwise.
Um her perpendicular foot would break off if she was spinning counter clockwise, only if i ignore her foot can i see it that way. Also if you follow here leg sticking out it's easy for here to look like she's just waving her leg back and forth ... of course again if you ignore her perpendicular foot.
Maybe my hemispheres are fused. That'd be sweet.
If you can only see one direction, here's my suggestion:
Realize that since this is in two dimensions, the only real movement is left to right and back again. It's our imagination filling in the third dimension - as her leg moves right (for example), we're either imagining it to be in front of her or behind her.
So, when her leg is starting a horizontal sweep, ask yourself if you're seeing it in front or behind. If in front, say to yourself, "Behind!" If it's behind her, say to yourself, "In front!"
Personally, I always see it clockwise first, then she starts to alternate randomly. It wasn't until I tried the mental trick I just described that I was able to make her switch.
Let me know if this works for you,

@19: Good call! I could only see clockwise, and couldn't understand how it could appear counterclockwise at all, until I covered up the shadow and stared at it for a while longer. It switched. While watching it turn counterclockwise, I couldn't understand how it ever appeared clockwise. I looked away, and when I looked back, it was clockwise again.
Now my brain hurts.
I have concentrated all of my attention away from work and my penis to stare at this stupid thing for almost 20 minutes straight.
The goddamn bitch is only moving clockwise. The shadow isn't helping. This is worse than those stupid magic eye things. I won't be able to do a single fucking thing until she starts turnin' the other way.
I saw it as Levislade described.
I'm a weirdo too!
Did they have to put nipples on her??? Because those are moving clockwise...
Clockwise only ....are you counterclocks sure your just not confused with the fact that your point of view shows her moving backwards...therefore you see it as counterclock? maybe....
But does it actually mean anything? I'd read that it's actually a lot more complicated than just 'left brain - right brain'.
I only see clockwise. I'm nominally left handed, although I am almost functionally ambidextrous (and oddly, getting moreso as I age). I am also fairly artistic. However, I am also extremely geometrically- and analytically-oriented (I come from a family of engineers), and I score really high on analytical, logical 'left brain' type tests.
I've understood that left-handedness MIGHT mean that the dominant hand is ruled by the artistic, intuitive side of one's brain, or it MIGHT mean that the functions of the two hemispheres are switched in lefties' brains, so that the concrete, logical side for them is on the right.
Umm, can we get an anatomically correct male version of this? Complete with nipplage?
I'm with @6... the article says the left/right brain thing is BS. I only see her moving clockwise and I am a total left brain.
clockwise? Err, nice tits!
== cock brain is in charge.
Sigh. I only see clockwise. And I'm pretty left-brained. I call BS.
That's weird SDA, because it looks like a guy to me.
Oh wait! Now it's a girl!
I see it clockwise with no effort, but I can see it counter if I try.
Also, I never once got those goddamn motherfucking magic eye posters.
Finally, yes, nice titties.
I can sometimes get it to switch if I stare at it a bit. Weird.
I can see only clockwise and can't get her to go the other direction. Despite being a gay man, I must say I admire those perky boobs.
Okay, now I saw it counter clockwise, but only if I scrolled from the bottom of the image on up.
If you view it starting from the bottom, and then scroll up, it will move counter clockwise. But if you start viewing it from the top, it will appear to move clockwise. You cannot get it to visually switch unless you scroll completely away from it and scroll to the image from either respective point.
i've seen this countless times and i've been able to switch directions almost at will every time. now all i see are her nipples.
Oh, and now I can only see her moving clockwise again. Damn.
Oh, now I'm confused. The girl is going clockwise but the shadow is going counter. What's wrong with me? Is this further evidence of the insanity I've been worried about?
to change directions: close your eyes and envision her spinning the other direction. when you open your eyes she will be spinning that way.
also: when you first view her, if the leg is on the left, she will appear to spin counter. if it is on the right, clock-wise.
For those that complained about the nipples, I agree. And while they're at it, they should remove her breasts and her lips, too. Those might accidentally arouse somebody. And her buttocks, as well. Maybe even her feet.
Same here...switches every time I blink, but initially clockwise. So, right-brainer, right? But I have traits in both columns.
I think she's a hottie! ;)
It doesn't have anything to do with being left or right brained, the distinction between which is about 75% hooey anyways. It's just an excuse for people who are stupid, and ignorant about {math, art} to justify their stupidity.
The interesting thing is, I can see her going counter-clockwise even though her extended hand is clearly largest when it's "behind" her going that way, which is impossible from perspective -- she should be going clockwise, because then the hand appears near when it's large, far when it's small, the way it should be. But I can see her both ways.
I don't like that girl.
Ya little dancin' fool.
I just like that's she's got such prominent nips!
What does Baryshnikov see? I'll go with him.
she spins clockwise for me. if i concentrate hard enough, i can make her spin the other way.
i really didn't need a test though to tell me that i'm weird and a little irresponsibles and eccentric.
What #6 said.
"This news article, like many others, ignores the true source of this optical illusion and instead claims it is a quick test to see if you use more of your right brain or left brain. This is utter nonsense, but the “right-brain/left brain” thing is in the public consciousness and won’t be going away anytime soon. Sure, we have two hemispheres that operate fine independently and have different abilities, but they are massively interconnected and work together as a seamless whole (providing you have never had surgery to cut your corpus callosum)."
Clockwise unless i stare a lot.
And NSFW.
damn #57, do you work for a christian organization?
counter clockwise for me and she won't go the opposite way.
Maybe a burka would help?
Started clockwise and I was convinced this is bullshit. Now she's counterclockwise and won't switch back. And is there a way to make her stop fucking spinning? I'm gonna have a seizure.
I've analyzed the animation frame by frame. The extended/raised hand and foot are slightly smaller than their counterparts when they reach center-line (i.e. both the closest and furthest to/from POV). This is what allows you too see the image rotating either way.
@61:
DUH.
@62:
:( You're a mean person. And your paintings are trite.
@63:
at least i figured out how the image worked without having to spend time 'analyzing' it. my paintings may be trite, but i'm fucked up on opium and absinthe. go lie on your back some more.
@63:
i'm sorry for being a grumpy old fart. orgy at my pad in amsterdam tonight.
Oh lord.
I DRIP PAINT ON BOTH VAN GOGH AND DA VINCI IN ABSOLUTE DISGUST. YOU ONLY WISH YOU CULD BE THE ARTIST I AM.
I gotta take a leak.
I guess you can say this thread has officially fallen apart...
OK, I don't know about you guys, but I'm imagining looking at her from underneath, and clockwise IS counter-clockwise.
Careful, Fnarf, you might get seasick trying to count the kidneys.
All I know is, my crank is definitely turning. God, I haven't been this turned on since the Ford Administration.
Now, after reading the Kucera Gallery show review, she's moving clockwise.
Be careful Fnarf! Remember the guy that got in trouble for the bicycle? I guess drooling after inanimate objects is against the law in all the sophisticated countries! Put a Please Do not Disturb Sign on the door!
Oh... then think about this that girl goes both ways!!!
At first she did a few revolutions counter-clockwise, but I cant for the life of me see her going anything but clockwise now.
Bicycles and shadow women are both inappropriate objects.
when she is spinning counter clockwise she takes on the form of a sexy robot, doing complex algorithms, in an industrial factory, all cogs and gears spinning to the drone of a mechanical music box.
when she is spinning clockwise she takes the form of a sexy graceful butterfly, flitting here and there, over a dew covered meadow to pan flutes and the happy twills of songbirds in love.
sheesh, I love people who buy into this crap.
Fun to watch though.
All of you artists suck!
Her perky boobs gave me a huge erection. I wish she was moving up and down instead.
I think the determinant in this little fun experiment is to see which way you perceive her going at first glance.
whether she is going clockwise or counter doesn't matter because you are still perceiving a two dimensional image in three dimensions. the point is that your brain is creating added perspective to make sense of the movement you are seeing. it has nothing to do with all that left brain/right brain crap. the different directions she spins is created by your initial impression.
What's more: WHERE ARE HER CLOTHES?
Wow, I was staring at it and it was only looking like it was turning clockwise, and I was thinking how I couldn't imagine anybody seeing it looking counterclockwise, but when I looked away, in my peripheral vision it started moving counterclockwise. Very odd. I can't change it back and forth at will though.
Clockwise until I start reading text around her and then she is counterclock. Both persist in that fashion for me. Very cool.
What does it mean if you saw her spinning clockwise this afternoon and now in the evening she's going counter clockwise?
Has the right side of my brain stopped working?
This thread made my day, thank you Da Vinci and van gogh. I'm still laughing (and I saw it counter-clockwise and then it switched each time I looked again, so maybe I have a freakish sense of humor).
85 comments and not one about her ass? Sheesh, baby's got some gorgeous haunch. Her calves are pretty fine too.
And, yeah artist interaction was great.
I've seen this before on some other site and my favorite part...comments.
I love that people on here have so much more intelligence.
On the other site, people were either convinced she was going one direction or the other and had "proof" or convinced she was changing direction at random or timed intervals and it was not just an optical illusion.
Fun stuff.
If you practice long enough, you can make her dance from one side to the other. Just don't forget to eat. Ditto the hot boobs from this gay man's POV.
At first glance, she was spinning clockwise, then after reading the text, I could change her to spin counter-clockwise, and back again, at will. My roommate sees her as counter-clockwise only.
MY question: Does this make me Bi?
Does no one else see the nippleage?...
