You mean it's not a truck?

Posted by Abby | November 14, 2007 7:44 PM

Sorry you guys. Hadn't seen it before. I think it's fun to read.

An anti-religious bore is as boring as a religious bore.

Since you seem to be having trouble looking things up on, I will help you out:

Origins: The piece quoted above likely began as a humor post to the newsgroup rec.humor in 1997. Its roots, however, are far older ... a story found in a 1962 book (reprinted from a 1960 magazine) is a mathematical "proof" that heaven is hotter than hell...

I think this may have been the very first email I ever received back in 1996 (not counting the one I sent to myself to test if my email was working).

Apology accepted.

I've never seen this before, actually. It's pretty lame.

An atheist engineer pal of mine had a paper copy of this on his cube wall in 1991.

If this isnít a hoax, will the UW student who wrote this perfect theorem please stand up and take a bow.

That's me. Not my best work, but it was enough to get me an A.

Mr. Feit and Mr. Poe, have I told you about the time I tried to use a $2 bill at Taco Bell...

Posted by Anon | November 14, 2007 10:06 PM

It's a fossil foward

Posted by OR Matt | November 14, 2007 10:55 PM

I think the Nigerian prince wrote it. The one with all the money but no bank account.

Posted by Colin | November 15, 2007 12:41 AM

I think it was actually Burlap Boy.

Posted by grumpypants | November 15, 2007 6:56 AM

It's exothermic.

Posted by violet_dagrinder | November 15, 2007 7:24 AM

Hai guyz

Did u hear that if u forwrd this thred to 10 people, Microsoft will give u a free copy of Windows 95?

It's true!

Posted by RUShur | November 15, 2007 7:30 AM

Okay, guys, this needs to stop. If the Stranger staff can't be bothered to keep up with the various internet fads and hoaxes, at least spare us the annoyance of reading about them again and again years later.

Posted by Greg | November 15, 2007 8:49 AM

i work in the main office at the uw chemistry department, and we get this email at least once a quarter from people asking to verify its validity.

obviously, this never happened at uw.

Posted by ray | November 15, 2007 8:52 AM

My chemistry prof at Evergreen read this to my class in 1990.

As for whether or not this meme is old, letís look at the different memes that exist in the world today.

Some of these memes are circulated through e-mail in the form of chain letters. Since there are more than one variety of these chain e-mails and since people have been stating for years to colleagues that this e-mails are reviled and will lead to deletion, we can surmise that chain e-mails are old meme.

Likewise, when others uninformed personae such as yourself post them, the memes in turn can age exponentially...

Sorry for the great inconvenience, y'all.

Posted by Josh Feit | November 15, 2007 9:09 AM

Please tell me more of this fascinating com-poo-ter.

Posted by tango and bash | November 15, 2007 9:13 AM

It's a closed loop.

The act of measuring would alter it, anyway.

Posted by Will in Seattle | November 15, 2007 10:00 AM

23. Inconvenience? I say not, Josh. I found great entertainment value in this whole exercise!

Posted by Gomez | November 15, 2007 10:03 AM

@22- you seem to love the word "meme".

Posted by Professor Meme | November 15, 2007 10:45 AM

Gomez thinks meme is academic somehow. (it is, but not in his little OMGLOL way).

also Gomez is always rude and angry because he is a very rare breed of asian.

Posted by un | November 15, 2007 11:28 AM

But HOW... FAT... AM I?

Posted by Gomez | November 15, 2007 4:49 PM

Now that Josh has posted a years old internet joke that I first saw on rec.humor.funny back in the 1990s perhaps we can get Charles Mudede to smoke a bunch of dope and then write a really long and incomprehensible slog piece on what it all means that includes pictures of whatever hot woman he's currently wanking over. That would be perfect.
