"I’m not saying Castagna is being honest or didn’t attempt to extort Curtis—we don’t know what happened—"

Yes he did. It's okay. We know that. They're both scum. Scum is scum.

True. But Scum B hasn't made a career out of criminalizing Scum A. Scum A is a hypocrite first and foremost.

Blahblah, I got tired of this scandal before it even began.

I thought the conversation with Pat Buchanan was more interesting than the Castagna interview. He claimed that Curtis is a sinner, not a hypocrite, because his resignation shows that he thought his actions were wrong. Is there something in the bible that offers a Holy Distinction between sinning and hypocrisy? I seem to remember something about "letting he without sin cast the first stone."

this guy is real classy...hmmm what are all the closet cases going to have to do to get some now that the rent boys are outing them?

Maybe it's progress, Dan, but we're still a long way from where we should be as a pluralistic and supposedly enlightened society. That's where the public thinks about sex work (and customers of sex workers) as being no big deal. Matisse had it right on your podcast a while back when she said that it's political suicide for a public official to favor legal prostitution. That's a stronger sign of things being the same than this scandal is a sign of positive change, I think.

So while it's nice that being a male escort - even a shitty extortionist male escort - is less horrible in the public's mind than being a lying, cheating, hypocritical Republican patronizing a male escort, it doesn't mean we're doing great.

you are not a hypocrite if you are honest about your "struggle" and if you do not judge others who share the same struggle. since curtis was (past tense) not honest and did judge others (with legislation no less), then he was a hypocrite.

but take, for instance, someone who knows they should quit smoking. but they struggle with quitting. they are only a hypocrite if they lie about it or if they judge others with still participating.

just because you aspire to a higher "moral" goal in your life doesn't mean you are a hypocrite if you have not obtained it yet... as long you are don't judge others who haven't or represent that you have obtained it.

Pat Buchanan's lack of logic was jaw dropping. He's become a crazy, giggly old fart (as opposed to the young fart he used to be) and needs to be put out on an ice floe.

Cody isn't exactly a brain surgeon. Wow. No wonder he's tricking at a video store.

they're both scumbugs...nothing wrong with being a sex worker, but you need to be a sex worker with integrity.

@12 That still continues to be one of the funniest concepts around....a whore with integrity. When an individual sells his/her body for cash money integrity goes out the window. Just because a whore doesn't publish the names of his/her johns gives him/her integrity? Not even. I've known my own share of people in the porn industry/"sex worker" industry and none if any of them have had what one could term "integrity". What the majority of them had was little to zero self-esteem covered by the facade of an over inflated ego, dissociative disorders, drug/alcohol problems, etc... In general not the type of people to hold integrity very high regardless of what Mr. Savage would say. Put simply a whore is a whore is a whore. You pay for it, you fuck it, it is an object.

wow, #15, that's a bit harsh.

and judgemental.

not to mention cruel and sadistic.

serial killers reduce human beings to 'objects' before they kill them. No human being, no matter what lifestyle they choose, should be denigrated as an object. There's no difference between you objectifying sex workers from a bigot doing the same to blacks, or asians, or gays.

do sex workers have a lot of issues? sure they do; so do people who work in sweatshops and call centers and alternate weekly newspapers. Are some of them pretty scummy and lacking in integrity?

yep.

so are some lawyers, and politicians, and ministers and teachers and nurses and writers and artists and waiters and brick layers.

but not all of them.

Ha ha ha, what I am saying is that when an individual makes the conscious decision to enter the sex trade then he/she is making that same decision to objectify themselves. No self help book or talk show host can sell an "it's all about how you work it and maintain that integrity" thing because once a person starts selling themself they do indeed turn in to an object. My point may not be PC, but it is probably pretty on target in terms of how a lot of these people probably view themselves which is what leads them to such a self destructive lifestyle.

Well Nicole,

What about whoring out your mind or vote? If you sell your mind to the highest bidder to do what they ask (say like a lawyer perhaps) and your mind is used to achieve less than compellingly moral ends, what then?

What about the average person, or average politician who votes for something illegal or immoral. Say like voting against voting rights for blacks so as to obtain votes from one's constituents? What about that kind of whoring?

Eh... That second example makes less sense than the first, but it's still relevant (somehow). Heck look at the Dems who voted for the war in Iraq, were going to end the war in Iraq (post 2006 mid-term) and continue to fund the war in Iraq. Just filled with integrity isn't it?

Anyways...

Again, in politics there are ethics committees, etc... In law school one has to go through ethics classes. None of it has to do with the actual selling of your genitals to a complete stranger for the purpose of that strangers sexual pleasure. My rather harsh view comes directly from knowing a lot of people in the sex industry both here in Seattle and down in SF. It's a world that doesn't even allow a person to maintain any integrity. However, this being Seattle I'm not entitled to my opinion because it doesn't fit the PC mold even though my opinion is formed from real and actual experience. I guess it's kind of like those huge obese people on daytime tv that sit there and talk about how happy they are being fat. Only in Seattle would someone actually believe them.

To be fair, neither does whoring, seems to be more of a rental thing, or sort of a time share. But the genitals are still yours afterwards. Though one that requires clean-up between tenants.

Cody is really really cute. Too bad he's barely coherent and with questionable morals (I don't care about the escortin but the bb thing is really unattractive). Damn cute though!

Nicole, you kind of live in a black/white world don't you?

ALL fat people must be unhappy.

ALL sex workers are trashy, unethical scum.

ALL people in Seattle are hyper-sensitively politically correct.

ALL people named Nicole are loud mouth, know it alls.

OOOPS; that last one was MY idiotic opinion. Not yours.

For a change.

my bad.

@24 I was referring to @22 point about whoring one's mind out to vote on something, etc... Being an actual whore has everything to do with selling one's genitals, but of course keeping a zip lock baggy of those wet wipes from KFC if probably a good idea for clean ups in between appointments.

I apologize for that last tirade. It was uncalled for.

As a morbidly obese, politically correct, male prostitute and porn star I don't have much schoolin' let alone ethics or morals...

I'm too busy stuffin' my face with pork rinds and stuffin' my ass with republicans and judgin' the politically incorrect.

Michael your own posts have proven you to be just as opinionated, but of course you probably like to think of yourself as oh so correct. Well you have your opinion and that's great. I just think it's really sad that you and a lot of others like you have zero tolerance for others who don't share your POV. It makes actual discourse virtually impossible. Instead you sit there and judge someone for having an opinion that you don't like. That's just really lame.

nicole:
your mind is made up, to you it's SELLING your fun bits , and your focus on the integrety or lack thereof of such a "sale" determines your judgement on the issue. a right/wrong thing; nuance or empathy don't exist for you. fine, but excusing your bias by blaming pc seattle doesn't really excuse your bias. or asshattery.

I'm not really sure how it's lame to be intolerant of discrimination, Nicole. Don't be mad because you're being judged for your opinions. It's a way better deal than you're giving to the people whose lives you're judging by their occupation.

Posted by Gloria | November 2, 2007 2:42 PM

Nicole, I'm not criticizing you for having an opinion, I'm criticizing you for making broad, idiotic statements. Saying that ALL sex workers are objects and unethical is just as offensive and asine and false as saying, "all black people are thieves" or "all gay men are pedophiles". It's ludicrous.

And classifying ANYONE as an object is horrifying. That was the Nazi's rationalization for gassing the Jews. I think you're a boob, but I'd never objectify you. I like objects. I'm gay. I buy them all the time at yard sales, EBay and Red Balloon Company. I'd NEVER buy you, even if you had the biggest dick in town.

oh, and one last thing; I'm the King of the UN-PC comment. I've horrified the politically correct from coast to coast. (example: for the most part, and on the whole, men ARE better drivers than women. And many Asian women, are lousy drivers. My opinion. But I never say, nor do I believe, that ALL Asian women are shitty drivers. I'm sure there are quite a few Asian women who drive better than me. at least a couple, anyway...)So, don't be throwing the "PC" label at me.

But I do have something you don't seem to have. I have a heart AND a brain, or at least a semblance of one, and I try to use both before I open my mouth and let a mess of shit fly out. You might try it sometime.
