TV Calling All Brits and/or Contemporary Anglophiles

onThanks to the international scope of the internet, I’ve come to learn that the UK version of Dancing with the Stars is entitled Strictly Come Dancing.
My question: What the hell does that mean?
Did they hope to name the show Strictly Ballroom but got legal threats from Baz Luhrman?
Or did they want to name it “Come Dancing” and got legal threats from Ray Davies?
Either way, the result is unfortunately bukkake-flavored.

Mmmmmm, bukkake-flavored... Specialty Jones Soda in the making?
As usual, it's an elaborate and snide joke on Johnny Foreigner.
You wouldn't understand...
Ohmigawd! Instant karma: "Come Dancing" by the Kinks just came up on shuffle on my Ipod. Weird!
@4: Not karma. Synchronicity.
Cum Dancing would have been a better title and more fun to watch.
Word!
Aww, c'mon! Julian Clary was absolutely adorable on this show. Especially the bits where they were trying to get him to butch up for the tango...
The title is a combination of "Strictly Ballroom," from the movie, and "Come Dancing," because it's part of a long Come Dancing series.
From the late 40's through to the late nineties there was a Ballroom Dancing
competition on the BBC called "Come Dancing" which featured professional ballroom dancers rather than celebrities.
The newer celebrity version is now "Strictly Come Dancing".
Obviously dates from an age when gay meant happy and come wasn't cum.
Popular schoolboy joke in Britain circa 1980:
Q: What's white and wriggles?
A: Come dancing.
julian clary is still around? dang...guess i've been away for a good minute.
Speaking of '80s schoolboy jokes: You know what's grosser than jelly on Brenda?
Re: #12
I don't know:What is grosser than Jelly on Brenda?
I got it.
