Sarah,

I think you're looking at King County numbers on their election results page, when you need to be looking at state-wide numbers on the WA Secretary of State's web site:

http://vote.wa.gov/elections/WEI/Results.aspx?ElectionID=0&RaceID=0&RaceTypeCode=M

which shows Prop 960 is passing by the margin stated; same goes for HJR-4204 going down by the the percentage listed.

I look forward to seeing the Stranger freak out about Metro having to either A. Raise Taxes, or B. Raise Fares to actually pay for all the diesel fuel the buses consume as the average price of diesel shoots above 4.00 a gallon, while heaping praises on themselves for helping to defeat an expanded transit system that runs off of electricity produced by hydro dams.

Gawd, you "We're Doomed! We're NEVER going to see another transit proposal put before the voters!" are getting sooooo freaking tiresome.

From the sounds of things, several of the major players are already in the process of working something up, and despite Gov. Gregoire's objection to a transit (read: taxation) package during a re-election year, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see something on the ballot by this time in 2008.

And if I'm wrong, I'll eat a bug. Just not one of those giant Brazillian cockroaches.

@8: I don't think Gregoire will care as long as public transit remains a mainly King County issue in the initiative. While Snoho and Pierce counties aren't necessarily Gregoire country, they're better hopes than the rest of the state.

How can the political light really be so stupid

Gregoire MUST win. She will not propose nor will Democrats support any thing that is costly, or controversial.

Her race will need many millions, and her bad ass opponent is at the gate.

This vote is a big win for the roads only people and big loss to solve any King Co transit woes.

Kemper and his buddies won. ALL forms of transit lost - possible some bus improvments, they use roads..

Olympia will talk past the next session, and low key talk, ALL prep for the big showdown one year from now.

Get smarter kids, the game is bigger than your cozy nook and hole in the wall political perspective. You all just got screwed by Eyman and Kemper and friends.

THEY control this issue now.
And they cooked some kinda deal with the Sierra elite. $$$$$$ for Sierra games?

Oh, you fools. "congestion pricing" is new PR for tolls. Sims brain has shut down.

Everyone knew Prop 1 would lose. It was a dumb proposition, and had too many factions against it. I voted for it anyway, but I knew it was a losing proposition.

Thank God Uncle Kemper's mall is saved from the great unwashed - at least for now.

The thing that I think we need to remember is that there are a lot of people out there behind the eight ball when it comes to money - even in affluent Seattle.

Of course, $4.00 a gallon for gas won't make things any easier.

As for Eyeman: Can we pass an initiative requiring initiatives to pass a constitutionality test prior to submission? That stinker of his is going straight to the garbage can, at taxpayer expense. Even I can tell it's not going to pass the smell test.

And while we're at it: Can we pass an initiative requiring any new roads to be paid for by tolls? :-)

By the way, Pierce County, your Exec screwed you big time. You're not getting invited to the next party and you're not getting your frickin highway. Sod off.
