And The Gays Love… Clinton.

posted by on November 29 at 12:05 PM

I’m just back from the eye-doctor and the world is a bit blurry, but I think I’m reading this right: Among lesbian, gay, and bi-sexual Democrats, Hillary Clinton is the favored candidate by a huge, 41-point margin.

From the Clinton campaign:

In a new survey released by Hunter College, Hillary Clinton leads all Democratic candidates in support among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) Americans. According to the poll, Hillary leads with 63 percent, 41 points ahead of the next candidate.

“I’m honored to have the support of so many in the LGB community,” said Clinton. “Together, we can end the divisiveness of the past seven years and change the direction of this country so that we embrace the full diversity of our nation.”

The poll also found that 72 percent of LGB likely voters consider Senator Clinton a supporter of gay rights. As President, Hillary will also work to end discrimination in adoption laws, sign hate crimes legislation and ENDA into law, and put an end to the failed policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. She will work to make sure that gay and lesbian couples in committed relationships have the same rights and responsibilities as all Americans.

Funny. When her husband ran, he said he'd allow gays to serve openly in the military too.

This poll was commissioned by HRC...

"I mean the Human Rights Campaign, not She Who Is Inevitable. Their latest commissioned poll of "LGB"s, i.e. lesbians, gay men and bisexuals, has the following demographics: 51 percent gay/lesbian/homosexual and 49 percent bisexual. On what planet is that a representative sample of any actual population? Ditto: 51 percent female. I don't know any demographer who thinks that lesbians and gay men have equal numbers in a fictional lesbian-gay community. So the poll is designed to reflect a pre-ordained political "community", rigged for PC purposes to inflate the numbers of bisexuals and lesbians. No big surprise which Democratic candidate won in a landslide: the candidate HRC has been supporting from the start."
(From Andrew Sulivan)

In other words - its bogus

(Come on Eli. Try to keep up.)

After Donnie Mclurkin, is anyone surprised?

HRC is corporate. I used to be a member but they pissed me off a number of times that I gave up on them. Who cares what they say??

Dennis Kucinich is probably the real candidate for gays and lesbians.

Shame on "Hunter College" (whatever the hell that is) for acting as a front for HRC's pro-HRC push poll...

What gay people did they to?

Wow, what a load of bullshit. The blatant lies, no-one's buying it.

HRC is the gay organization for straight people who don't actually know or like any actual gays. 51 percent women? 49% bisexual?

eh...(shrugs shoulders)

I don't know if I can support a woman who has legs shaped like pineapple juice cans.

Just not chic enough...

and what's her stance on lifting the trade ban on European poppers, lube and porn? The current administration's policy of subsidies to the American popper and porn industries and the lube farmers of the Midwest MUST be curtailed in order to truly establish Free Trade that I can get behind...

Sullivan is a right wing gay man who is a linton hater - her balls are bigger than his - for sure.

Who cares what sullied Sully thinks?

His choice is Obama and he will do anything to bash Hillary. Course he liked the war and Bush too - so his savant standing is a bit shaky these days. Sullivan is the ONLY gay person I have ever heard about that like Bush back then.

Or, maybe some people will just follow Miss Thing at any cost ..... cause they like to follow.

i think it's the novelty factor. if she wins she would be the country's first lesbian president.

Wow...so we ditch trannies out of ENDA for convenience sake, and they suddenly don't even merit polling as a part of our community. Nice.

Perhaps they're not a big enough percentage of the population? In which case, I suppose, Mitt Romney won't ever have a Transgendered Muslim in his cabinet....

Kucinich IS the only real candidate, but unfortunately he is about 50 years before his time.

I hate to say it, but I'd take The Hill over any of those old fucks that were on CNN last night.

Well… According to the latest Zogby poll, if they run her, we will elect one of those old fucks.

@13. Wrong. Kucinich is to the right of Bobby Kennedy. He's more of a throwback than the future, I fear.

I'm a lesbian (or bi, depending on who asks) and I'm for Hill. Plus, I'm for her only because she has a vagina. Ha ha ha.

The ha is not because it's a joke, but because it's impossible to change my mind. Go ahead, argue how non-progressive she is. I'll agree, and then say, but hey, she's still a woman. And I think it's time.

Yeah, HRC has been in Hilary's pocket from the beginning. This poll is bullshit.

Sure, Hillary's better than any of the Republican clowns, and I think she'd make an okay president. But I have no illusions that she'd be nirvana for the GLBT crowd.

Bill Clinton said he'd fully integrate gays in the military in 1993, and instead we got stuck with the clusterfuck that is DADT. If Bill couldn't manage it, what makes you think Hillary will do any better? Bill also signed the Defense of Marriage Act. Despite his popularity, Bill actually did more harm than good for the GLBT community. Hillary sort of hints at gay marriage, but can't quite make herself say the words. That is not a sign of encouragement either.

Any of the Dems would be better on gay rights than any of the Repubs. But with the possible exception of the unelectable Kucinich, I wouldn't expect to see great progress from any of them, including Hillary.

@18 DADT is a crap policy, but give Bill some credit. It was never going to win him any votes, but he pushed for allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve in the military anyway. Lots of people hate gays and lesbians - you can't just wave a magic wand and make that go away. Show some respect.

As Hillary gains popularity through running a disciplined campaign and being awesome in the debates, the vitriol from the Slog grumps becomes more and more strident and shrill...

gavingourley @19,

Integrating blacks into the military didn't win Truman any votes either, but he had a spine and did it anyway.

As a Queer who since he was 18 has voted in ever single election from President to school levy, I'll vote for Ms. Rodham should she end up the nominee. Kucinich may line up almost perfectly with me on the issues, but his viability and electability is nil. Get real. He'll make a terrific HHS or HUD Secretary.

Is Hill my first choice? No. Will she stab Queers in the back? Probably. Will any of the Republicans? Damn right--and twist and twist until we (and the rest of the country) bleed even more than we did under Emperor Bush.

I wonder how many people that bitch about Hillary on slog actually plan to caucus?

Posted by jewritto | November 29, 2007 2:50 PM

I'm a fag, and I'm for Dodd, and I will absolutely caucus.

Of course, the chance that Dodd will still be in, or make 15% viability is remote, so I'll likely end up with Edwards or Obama - whomsoever appears to be more of the Hill-killer at the time.

@14 - the Zog poll you cite is an internet only poll, has a terrible track record, and appears to be a massive outlier, esp. next to the Gallup that was released a day later with far more standard methodology (and hence, reliability)

@ SDA in SEA, You have to remember our grandparents had a Democratic party that had these things called balls and a backbone.

Clinton said nice things when he was in the White House but did bad things. I am more concerned about what a President DOES as opposed to what they SAY. DOMA and DODT were two mistakes that to THIS day Bill Clinton has never explained fully.

They polled the LGBs, but what about the T's? Who do they like?

This is one fag that doesn't support Hillary. @25 is correct- Bill said great things. Then look what happened:

1) The DADT was probably the best result he could get. I can live with that. My partner of course payed with "faggot this, faggot that" during his 6 year stint in the navy. Nothing like living in a bit of psychological fear and mental anguish keeping that closet door closed real tight. Just sayin.

2) What I don't get and can't live with was his presidential pen saying yes to DOMA. Bill Clinton was a chicken shit. Hillary has the audacity to say she "will work to make sure that gay and lesbian couples in committed relationships have the same rights and responsibilities as all Americans." That's bullshit. That's called marriage and that's something she has specifically said no to. Lets call an egg and egg.

Then again Patty Murray voted for DOMA, chicken shit that she is in my opinion. Where's the apology or movement on that Patty dear? How come any of the homos in Washington State should give you their vote?

My point is that Hillary is part of the same old, same old. Two years of working on the Hill myself showed me that they just don't keep the promises they make and that their statements, Dem or Republican, can't be trusted. I may vote for Clinton in the general while holding my nose but I'm sure not voting for her in the primary.

Essex so Andrew Sullivan is a right winger but he supports Obama?

That doesn't make much sense does it. Maybe you should use your brain before making idiotic attacks. I guess people stop doing that once you give in to HRC and the left.

I'm gay. I don't want her. I hate her in fact. I cringe at the fact of her being our future president. She's a republican in democrats' wool.

She's sneaky, aloof, and just jumping through the hoops to get what she wants.

She attends Builderburge meetings, and personally I want off this Clinton Bush ping pong ball game.

No To HILLARY!!!!!!! The gays don't want her, at least the ones I know. Obama all the way.
