City Zipcar, Flexcar to Merge

onThe combined company will operate under the Zipcar brand and use Zipcar technology, meaning current Flexcar members will have to trade in their existing Flexcards for Zipcar’s proprietary “Z3D technology.” Green Car Congress has more.

This could suck. Zipcar has a higher annual fee and is headquartered on the east coast. Regarding the car rental tax: Will Olympia be as likely to listen to this company as it would a local one?
Wait, really, Doug? A look at Zipcar's website reports lower overall base-level pricing in SF than with Flexcar.
I was not happy when I first heard the news, but after researching a bit, it looks promising, so long as exchanging membership cards isn't too much of a pain.
Hmmm. Interesting. I get the Vancouver rates when I click on CHECK RATES, and they are higher than San Francisco and Seattle FlexCar.
Just as
HomeGrocer.com > WebVan
so is
FlexCar > ZipCar
I am a little worried about this. FlexCar was GREAT at responding to issues locally since they were local. I asked if a car was going to be placed in the Wedgewood area and I got an honest answer that they were working on it and a few months later there was a car there.
FlexCar's customer service is STELLAR and the cars are all in really good condition. (there have been a couple of exceptions but still overall OUTSTANDING!!
I am worried a little though.
I don't drive a lot so thought Flexcar would make sense for me. It would except Flexcar discriminates against the elderly. I couldn't see getting rid of my car and ending up in a few years without a car or Flexcar. I imagine that there are a lot of other older folks for whom Flexcar would make sense because they no longer drive much, but who find they are too old for Flexcar or will be in a few years so pass on it. Too bad, because it sounds like a good idea.
Flexcar = Webvan
Zipcar = Homegrocer
Hertz = QFC
Enterprise = Safeway
Does King County get shares for underwriting start up funds?
3. Even factoring in the conversion in dollars, Canadians probably tax the hell out of Zipcar.
Also, IIRC Flexcar's standard plan is now charging $10 an hour and $70 per day max, before taxes.

I wouldn't worry too much about a drastic change in service. I just moved to DC, which has both zipcar and flexcar. While I've only tried zipcar, they seem pretty much identical as far as I can tell. I have no idea if prices will be an issue or not. . .
