Suddenly I feel justified in always snubbing that place, not that it was ever really a consideration.

Help me out guys: where on 15th was that? I lived on 15th about 18 months ago (until I could not afford the rent) but the place does not sound familiar....

Yech? Come on, all this means is that after two hours, leftover foods were at something like 43 degrees instead of 40, and that this has happened more than once. Are you telling me that in your own house you've never left prepared food out for more than a few minutes before putting it into the industrial-strength fridge? These violations sound about as benign as any health violation possibly could, and certainly less disgusting than things that go on all the time. Don't be a wimp.

Well, I don't think I'd go to a place named "Zesto's" anyway...it reminds me of "Zesty" and I tend to hate foods that claim to be "Zesty"...

If the repellent fifties-diner vibe didn't keep me out, the hordes of Ballard High students would. This in in my neighborhood, the real 15th, 15th Ave NW, not that tragic little halfway strip on the back of the Hill.

On this day, wherein those that consume become those that produce, and where the stuff of reality is turned upon its head, I would like this to be an annoucement that this screen name will, from time to time upon my whim, make appearances within Slog. It is not unlike some other forms of fake bloggery on the Internet, but it is a fun form of self-expression for me. For what are we on an interactive medium like the Internet but self-expressive? We are mass-expresssive.

And now an Internet link to a hot ethnic babe.

Sorry, I was just reporting on the violation of health standards. Standards (designed and executed to keep YOU free of food-poisoning) other operating restaurants don't have a problem meeting. But yes, thank you, I feel extremely sorry for being harsh towards Zesto's and their 43 degree meals.

Poisoning high school students is a sport, not a crime.

That's fine to report on restaurant closures, although if you check your source you will see that it reopened. But having worked in foodservice for a long time in the past, I really fail to share your "yech" reaction to that kind of citation. I will proceed to list some practices that are standard operating procedure at many restaurants, and suggest that if this stuff grosses you out, you shouldn't go out to eat:

1. People working dish using the same filthy hands that have been slopping dirty plates to carry clean plates back to the line.

2. Waiters who pick revolting used napkins etc off of plates before giving them to the dishwasher then using those same fingers to pick up multiple glasses by the INSIDE of the glasses (think of how you'd pick up three glasses at once).

3. Waiters and cooks working through communicable illnesses becuase of insufficient sick days.

@ 5 Just because your 15th can kick our 15th's ass, you don't have to be a fucking bully about it.

While Zesto's is not my personal favorite place to go, I wish them the best in ovcoming the challenge of this health and safety setback. And of course I am terribly relieved that no one seems to have been made ill from unsafe food. Thanks for posting this information!

@9,

Ugh. I hate people who put their dirty napkins on the plates. Bonus hatred for the bastards who blow their noses (in the napkins) while sitting at the table.

It's at 15th Ave NW and NW 65th across from Ballard High School.

Best food around there is at the place that does good burgers and fried and breaded mushrooms on 24th Ave NW near the QFC, about three blocks N of Market. Love their milkshakes and fried mushrooms (my dentist is near there ...)

Yeah, closures happen pretty frequently, I don't see the news in this, unless it's the fact that the place is on 15th. If you aren't on the closure email alerts, I recommend it. Most places re-open after a day or two.

It's more fun to use the health inspection database to look up your favorite eating establishments. Finding mentions of pests and rodents is always entertaining.
