silly as it may be any wind at all totally messes with the trolley buses that metro runs - we'll see if they bother to plan ahead this time so they don't strand tons and tons of people like they did last time (on many days' notice)

Oh, I do enjoy Scott Sistek's weather commentary. This is the funnest weather column I've read and I'm really disappointed nothing like it exists in the city I've moved to.

i remember the last wind storm -- people freaked out. that gas station at pike and broadway had a line half way down the block. i took pictures with my cell because i couldn't believe it was actually happening.

But this will be FUN to watch if it actually happens. (Note, the really big/bad storms are usually never predicted correctly. Since they say it will be bad Thursday it probably will not be that bad.)

@15 I lived near Santa Ana in Southern CA for many years and I lived ten years in Mazatlan through two tail end hurricanes. Those were some real winds! : )
I bet my winds were bigger than your winds LOL Actually I have no idea what the winds are like in Texas.

Not again. Last windstorm blew a branch up 100 feet to my upstairs deck and flooded it for three days while I was gone.

Maybe Florida could take the windstorm for us?

hahaha...that headline cracked me up! seriously lol! I do love the news in the northwest, because the only thing they can talk about is the weather sometimes...like if it is going to snow .0002 inches the weather will take over the entire news channel and I LOVE THAT! I also love that we still have news stories about farm animals on tv sometimes...you won't find that in NYC!!!

I'm glad everyone is LOLing about windstorms. They are so funny! Especially the fact that last time there was a big one, 15 people died and hundreds were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and well over a million were without power for days. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Could someone explain to me why this ISN'T a big story?

19. The winds in Texas weren't bad... in normal weather. But if there was a storm, ohhhhhhhh man. Heavy rain, heavy winds, explosive thunder, and of course the threat of tornadoes. You just hoped your power stayed on.

In Texas, I learned after a couple storms that if you saw storm clouds on the horizon, you got inside ASAP and stayed there until morning.

36. Yes, like the Vietnamese family in Burien that was too stupid to read the English-language warnings against monoxide poisoning--so stupid! Or the hundreds of power lines stupid enough to fall down--so stupid! Or the millions of Puget Sound-area residents too stupid not to live in central city Seattle or Tacoma, the only parts of the region not brutally impacted by the power outages and freezing temperatures during last year's windstorm--so stupid!

Don't we know that the way to deal with adverse weather is either to move to Capitol Hill or to shiver under piles of blankets for a week? Nah, we're stupid enough to think that 60 mph winds are a big deal.

while it was bad those things happened, people were also freaking out about power being out for a few hours, disruptions in their commute, cell phone weirdness, and a generator shortage at the hardware stores...and the media was on hand to let them lament, and whine about such trivialities....

makes one wonder how well the posh suburbanites in this area would do in an event of say, this magnitude:

As you may not know, the posh suburbanites of Burien, White Center and Tukwila (I hope you understand the irony of that statement) were not without power for a few hours, they were without power for many days, and up in the foothills and across the Sound many people were without power for weeks. And as I recall, people weren't so much "freaking out about their commute" or their "cell phone weirdness" (perhaps these were the only impacts on Capitol Hill-dwellers) as the fact that they were fucking cold and without power. Damn the media for letting them lament! Don't they know that posh suburbanites don't deserve heating? Obviously a massive earthquake would be worse, as would a tsunami or an alien invasion, but that doesn't obscure the fact that many posters here don't seem to realize: many people died as a result of that windstorm and millions of people shivered their asses off. But who cares about that.

Regardless of who the coverage was about, millions of people all over the area were suffering. And I don't blame Cap Hill people for the slow response, I blame them for their short memories and their callous disregard for what a goddamn awful situation it was.

Oh, THAT windstorm...the one that blew over big trees and stuff. Yah, this lady that goes to church with my mom was pregnant with twins when that happened and she happened to be standing in the twins' new bedroom when some huge ass trees blew down and fell onto her house everywhere EXCEPT for on the room she was standing in! Amazing. She had the twins with no problems later. I don't know, it could be a different storm though. Damage is bad and people getting killed is no good, but a wind storm people...try living on the coast some time and then talk to us about wind.
