Film'Parting Glances' at SIFF Cinema at McCaw Hall The high point of this year's Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival is a scrappy indie movie from 1986 starring Steve Buscemi as a rock star on the ascent who's also an AIDS patient on the decline. Tender and resolutely unsentimental, Parting Glances avoided future AIDS movie clichés not because the example had yet to be set, but because its interests lay elsewhere—in a study of a sexually complicated friendship and in a loving portrait of bohemian New York suddenly aware of its own foreshortened prospects.

Don't do that! Do this:
SUPER 8: SHORTS
One of the most popular programs at the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, the SUPER 8 project is a guarantee that you’ll see clever, sexy, and very unique local films. Hostess with the mostest Rebecca M. Davis returns to keep the films rolling and the free prizes flowing. This year, ten new filmmakers have accepted our challenge to make a three-minute short film in three weeks, with no editing equipment, only one roll of film, and a randomly assigned theme. Since this is our twelfth festival (which opens on the 12th of the month), we thought it appropriate to have the word “Dozen” as their theme. For inspiration, perhaps the filmmakers will look to things that come in twelves: eggs, hours, zodiac signs… or, hmm, inches? Come see who measures up and you’ll be sure to get a dozen good times.

AFTERPARTY - For a super way to celebrate the latest batch from local filmmakers, stop by KURRENT for light bites and drink specials. KURRENT restaurant & bar, 600 E. Pine St.

GO GO GO GO GO!!!

Will--Nightmare doesn't open until tomorrow! (If you're that excited, you can see it in the suburbs at 11:59 pm, but you could still make it to Parting Glances beforehand.)

Parting Glances is one of my favorite gay films of all time, and I've seen many of them, good and bad. One of the original cute young stars, now 20 years older, will be doing a Q&A after the show tonight, which should be interesting.
