doesn't look like the pieces that knittaplease was doing last year [flickr]). maybe it's crocheters vs. knitters for yarn dominance
Looks like knittaplease to me. Last I saw of them it was around one of the monorail cement pillars. Good to see it back on the streets. Word.
I love the park bench cozy! But it's been there at least 3 weeks already. Maybe even since August. I walked by there earlier this week and was surprised it was still there. Makes me happy to see :)
Looks like a big caterpillar.
Knitta please is from Texas and was only out here for Bumbershoot, thanks to Yoko Ott...These are copycats...good ideas, just done by someone else...Maybe they can knit a sweater around a sleeping bum???
Those of us who crochet prefer the term 'hookers' over 'crocheters.'
I can't be the only person to find these "urban cozies" as lame as their name.
I find them lame as well, Explorer. Just... boring, which is a cardinal sin for public art in my book
@Kate+Explorer: Maybe rather pedestrian next to the ball & chain on the working man, but FAR more interesting than the "work" of 3Assholes and the like. Frankly knitting and crochet are weird-ass hobbies form my POV, because they can only produce one thing: Knitted and crocheted goods. Which aren't very thrilling. But for the (mostly) girls doing it, it's about the effort. I applaud them for that, and hope they do more daring stuff in the future.
@Christopher: What's so bad about knitted and crocheted goods? And no, it's not about the effort. It's about tactile pleasure, relaxation, intricate patterns, clever constructions, custom-made clothes with a great fit, and much much more.
And there is time for doing daring stuff and doing stuff that you like.
Wrong, it's about making somebody smile when they see it, which is what public are should do. If you want pretentious art go to a gallery. Stop reading into it.
Explorer: you're the kind of person who hates sunshine. Do you really want to be that kind of person?
What work of who 3assholes??? Im confused...
If you want pretentious art, stay away from me.
chauncey, do you really want to see my tan line?

These things are obviously some kind of plot. Either Commie, or Muslim. Some kind of attempt to sap our vital fluids and distract us from the struggle to come. We must stand firm against public urban niceification before we all become pinko weak kneed crochet enthusiasts and the cold fabric of democracy itself becomes warm and snuggly-wuggly, thereby giving comfort to our enemies and the succour of secretive chortling to the slavering fifth column! Be aware people! Building Seven was infected with crochet!
do they come from the 'pigeon lady'? the bag lady you see all over the hill with crocheted stuff in her hair; I see her a lot at 15th and John on the bench, feeding the pigeons...
